[WRESTLE-1 NEWS] Keiji Mutoh announced that he will be undergoing knee surgery in March and because of that he will be hosting a special 8 man tag match on the March 14 show. Mutoh will be teaming with Ryota Hama, SUSHI & Kazushi Miyamoto to take on Masayuki Kono, Hiroshi Yamato, Yasufumi Nakanoue & KAI. Mutoh announced that he is bringing together several of his students from his All Japan era including those who have moved on to other promotions. The match will also see Hiroshi Yamato make his return after being out of action due to a neck injury in 2016. 

As for his knee surgery, he mentioned that his daily life has been impacted more so as of late and he feels it is time to undergo extensive surgery on both of his knees. He mentioned that he may no longer be able to execute a Moonsault Press once he has an artificial joint put into place. So this match in March could every well be his last chance to execute one of his signature techniques. (Side note: Great Muta will be competing on the DDT show on 3/25.) As for when he thinks he will be able to to return he was not able to announce a time frame. He acknowledged that his strength has decreased as he has gotten older, but that he does plan to continue wrestling once he has undergone a successful rehabilitation.

[WRESTLE-1 NEWS] The full event card was announced for the July 16 show, as three title matches were announced to be taking place, and then the W-1 Championship was formally announced to be in defense on September 1 in Yokohama.

Following his win in the “WRESTLE-1 GRAND PRIX 2017”, Jiro “Ikemen” Kuroshio has earned the right to challenge for the W-1 Championship belt. Which he called out to take place against Shotaro Ashino at the big Yokohama show that will be taking place with the start of September. The W-1 committee has formally agreed for the match to take place at the show. Kuroshio declared that he wants to finally take hold of the top spot in W-1 and give something back to the fans that have continued to support him. He even also mentioned that if he wins the belt that he wants a match against his former teacher Masakatsu Funaki, in which he used the Hybrid Blaster in the final match of the GRAND PRIX against Masayuki Kono.

Though with the title match now set there will be plenty of prelude matches throughout the next month and a half starting on the July 16 show. Joining their prelude match will be three other title matches taking place. As  MAZADA will be defending the Crusierweight belt against the former champion Andy Wu, in a rematch from when MAZADA won the belt in May. Then Koji Doi will be putting the Result belt on the line against the up-and-comer Takanori Ito in w rematch from the semi-finals of the tournament to crown the first ever champion. Then lastly the UWA World 6 Tag belts will be in defense as  Manabu Soya, NOSAWA Rongai and Ganseki Tanaka taking on the trio of  Kaz Hayashi, Kotaro Suzuki and Jun Tonsho.

[WRESTLE-1 NEWS] W-1 announced the full event card for the upcoming show on April 23 and the title matches for the next Korakeun Hall show on May 4.

First up the April 23 card was announced as the main event will feature Koji Doi defending the Result belt against his fellow tag partner Kumagoro. The two understand that competition comes before their friendship as both aim to become stronger and closer through pushing themselves in each and every match. 

Then three title matches were announced for the next Korakuen Hall show that will be held on May 4. The main event will feature the now lone wolf champion Shotaro Ashino taking on yet another established competitor in Manabu Soya. Ashino announced his leave from TriggeR after besting both of his former teammates in the last month. Ashino now declaring himself the leader of this era has put himself directly in the path of the established wrestlers who have come before him.

Then the W-1 Tag belts will be in defense as Koji Doi and Kumagoro put the belts on the line against the team of Masayuki Kono and the heavyweight up-and-comer from the ACE brand Takanori Ito. Kono called out for the title match following the champions defense on 4/19 and said that he would find himself an appropriate teammate. That being the man he beat earlier on the show in Ito. This will mark Ito’s first ever title opportunity. Kono aims to give the big rookie the chance to show his worth, maybe even a potential spot into TriggeR.

Then the W-1 Cruiser belt will be in defense, as the new, and now 2-time, champion Andy Wu goes into a rematch against, the man that beat him for the belt earlier this year, MAZADA. MAZADA has taken offense to losing the belt to Yoshioka and then only seeing it go right back to Wu as he just beat him earlier this year. MAZADA declared that he will reclaim the belt just like he did back in the start of the year. Andy stated that this time he will defend the belt.

[WRESTLE-1 NEWS] W-1, which operates under GEN Sports Entertainment, today announced the changing of the leadership personal. 

As of April of 2017, Kaz Hayashi will be assuming the position of president in place of Keiji Mutoh. Mutoh himself will be moving up as the Chairman of the Board. Shuji Kondo, who is also the main booker for the promotion, will be moving up as the Vice President position. Then Sanshiro Takagi, who is the CEO of DDT and former CEO of W-1 as well, will be heading down to a strictly adviser position.

Mutoh stated that he has put all of his trust in Hayashi to do his very best with the promotion. Hayashi has competed all over the world and has done his very best in coaching all the talent involved with All Japan before 2012 and now since the first day of W-1. He has worked hard in every aspect to hold a deciding factor in the everyday dealings with the future of the promotion.

Hayashi stated that his first act is two focus on the big show at the “Yokohama Cultural Gymnasium” on September 2. He wants to put forth a big event with a true big match feel.

[WRESTLE-1 NEWS] President Kaz Hayashi took part in a press conference to announced STRONG HEART’s presence on the June 22nd show and also formally announce two title matches.

Hayashi stated that he has delegated seven of his wrestlers to face CIMA’s STRONG HEART, from OWE Shanghai, on the June 22nd show at the Shinkiba 1stRING. Hayashi stated that he is still heated over their shocking presence, but that he expects the W-1 wrestlers to end this before it turns into a potential full-scale invasion. The main event for the show will feature the W-1 Tag belts in defense as Ashino and Kumaarashi defend against the team of Jiro “Ikemen” Kuroshio and ZERO1′s Masato Tanaka. Ikemen claimed a direct win over Ashino on the 6/13 show, to earn this title challenge. This will mark the first defense for the champion as they take on Ikement and Tanaka who have shown multiple times that they can be a solid team, though given their inherent differences.

[WRESTLE-1 NEWS] It was made official that Manabu Soya will be challenging Shotaro Ashino for the W-1 Championship on March 14 at the Korakuen Hall. 

Soya has recently found himself on a downturn, but has found himself again with reuniting with AKIRA and bringing back the “new WILD order”. Soya stated that he is not in favor of Ashino’s acts as the reigning champion with the champions accepting of lawless acts. Ashino though is now sitting at seven successful defenses as champion and current dominate hold over the belt. He mentioned that there is still much for him to prove as champion and he is eager to further elevate the generation struggle that he feels with suffer if he loses to Soya.

Will Soya manage to reclaim the W-1 belt, which he last held in January of 2016, or will Ashino further cement his legacy with yet another successful defense?
