Couldn’t get a good shot of it but the $3 painting and its $4 frame are now united with a $10 mat and I am thrilled with the result. This is intended for the barn but I might need it in the house.

Loyalty to hero clouds judgment
During a political rally recently in Charleston, W.Va., President Trump received raucous support from an enthusiastic crowd. Normally that would not be a big news story. West Virginia has been strongly supportive of the president since he announced his presidency.
What makes the event noteworthy is that earlier in the day Trump’s personal lawyer, Michael Cohen, pleaded guilty to multiple felonies. He also implicated the president in a felony. Also, Trump’s campaign manager, Paul Manafort, was found guilty by a jury on right felony counts. Usually, that kind of negative news might put a wet blanket on any type of celebratory mood. But not in Trump’s world and not in today’s environment where one’s supporters stick to their hero regardless of what goes wrong.
President Trump’s popularity and support has hovered right around 40 percent or so all along, no matter what he says on Twitter or who pleads guilty close to him or whatever false statement he makes. As he infamously said during his campaign, he could shoot someone in Times Square and that 40 percent would still be there for him.
This is not unique to Trump nowadays. There are other politicians, coaches and business leaders who have such a devoted following that no amount of bad behavior is enough for those core supporters to drop their devotion to the hero. Blind support such as this was once restricted to one’s favorite sports team or political party. But a slight change has occurred where now a single person becomes the figure which people rally behind.
What is it about our brains that allow us to ignore any negative information about someone we are loyal to, especially for people who have not met personally? Do all of us have this trait where we would fully support someone so completely under the right conditions? Are certain people more likely to do this than others? If so, what are the signs that one might be susceptible to such devotion.
In terms of Trump’s support with this 40 percent base, will there be a point when that support weakens? What will it take for that to happen? If it does happen, will it be a gradual decline or will it happen all at once?
I wonder if President Trump ever thinks about any of these questions. Does he take this support for granted? Is he appreciative of this undying loyalty? Will he continue to try and take advantage of this devotion?
As you can see I have many questions about this phenomenon. I am fascinated by this irrational support. However it happens and however it may be negated, it will be interesting to see how this 40 percent continues to behave moving forward. What will it take for those West Virginia supporters – and others – to sit on their hands in silence the next time Trump comes to visit?
