but uh here’s a mini art and lore dump below!!
(also btw tw for neglect and abuse in shake’s childhood because.. cmon for that man to have turned out the way he did something had to have been going on at home 😭 also tw for grooming for frylock’s lore—fortunately it does not lead anywhere bad, but i think frylock was a lonely vulnerable kid :( )
here was shake as a baby + his mom, danica (shake’s dad, jayce, is behind the camera taking the photo lol). my shake was born afab, hence why the name is scratched out on the polaroid. and uh, if you can’t tell by the photo, his mother was. not exactly the most fond of shake 😭 i can get into my lore for shake’s parents another time if anyone is interested, but just know that right off the bat shake did not have a good relationship with his mom. his dad, however, really loved shake, but was constantly at work working his like. 20 million jobs to try and keep them afloat. so shake was unfortunately rather neglected (and, later on as he got older, abused) as a kid. but i think he was a pretty happy baby! there wasn’t a lot of thought going on in his head, so he was just a blank happy slate. its only as he got older (think like. five) that he became a lot more angry and volatile. his mom was a “stay at home mom” who did none of her duties as a stay at home mom and instead just sat around watching TV and getting high all day even though the house was falling apart (shake lived in BAD conditions—there was a bad bug infestation, mold was caked into everything, the floors were actively rotting, and there was hardly ever any food in the house (and it was only ever junk food when there was. shake had to make a lot of treks alone to dollar general for food as a kid). shake’s father is a lot more supportive though and really tries his best ☹️ however, he’s working through a lot of issues and trauma of his own, and that sometimes gets in the way of being a better dad to shake. shake grew into the neighborhood menace once he reached school-age though, and he would often harass the other neighborhood kids. however, that was because he had no friends and was desperate for any sort of attention. as time passed by, though, shake gradually became more of a shut in and, by the age of twelve, spent all of his time holed up in his room (where he would either obsessively rewatch his collection of horror films or smoke and drink the weed and booze he stole from his mom and dad respectively). he also spent a lot of time on the internet, specifically in like… incel-esque forums and shock/gore sites 😭 it’s on the internet that shake finds out about the term “transgender” and while at first he makes fun of the term, shake has a stint in the psych ward when he’s thirteen (the reason why is. a very long story. mayhaps one for another day if anyone is interested) where he meets a trans man who passes REALLY WELL, so well that shake doesn’t even know he’s trans until the guy talks about it in group therapy. and that kinda sparks the idea for shake that shake can ALSO be trans. and so the day he gets discharged from the psych ward he cuts off his hair (and it looks really really bad) and he changes his name to shake before his freshman year of high school (which i have lore for the reason why he names himself that and its STUPID but i’m not gonna share that here rn). but then yeah, a month or so into his freshman year, he meets frylock, and that’s pretty much shake’s childhood!! (pre frylock at least. there’s still a shit ton of stuff that happens in the rest of shake’s teenage years 😭)
and now here’s frylock as a baby! i admittedly have less lore for his childhood (as i imagine he was raised in a lot less of a complex and toxic household as shake) because i kind of feel like frylock’s life was a bit uneventful before he met shake. his parents were generally pretty good, but his mom could be a pretty bad helicopter parent, and that only got worse because of the reasoning behind why frylock got his scar. essentially, i imagine it was because dr weird in my au (who is frylock’s mom’s dad who is mentally ill and suffers from delusions) tried to experiment on frylock when he was babysitting him one day to give him “powers,” or so dr weird explained. needless to say, frylock never saw him again (or at least not without being chaperoned by a parent). i imagine that frylock’s mom worked at a school, and she was so bad of a helicopter parent that she made sure to work at every school frylock went to so that she could keep an eye on him 😭 this greatly impacted frylock’s social life (which already wasn’t great because. c’mon frylock is autistic) to the point where frylock never had a friend until he met shake. this leads to a lot of isolation on frylock’s end, causing frylock to seek companionship on the internet. because it was the 90s, frylock spent a lot of his time on aol talking to random strangers (under the guise of studying for school to keep his mom off his back), and a lot of the time frylock would end up being a twelve year old having to listen to some grown adult vent about their issues 😭. one day, though, frylock meets a girl his age on aol and they get to talking. in the spur of the moment, when the girl asks what gender he is, frylock impulsively says that he’s a girl, and even though frylock has no idea why he did that, in retrospect, this is one of his first trans epiphanies. he and the girl get to talking and talk for a WHILE. things progressively get more comfortable between them and that’s when the other girl began to ask increasingly alarming things of frylock. fortunately, frylock was wise enough to quickly see the other girl’s motives and he immediately cuts off contact, but the whole encounter leaves a really bad taste in his mouth. however, he never tells his parents about what happened and just takes a break from aol for a while (until the loneliness gets bad again :(). frylock spends the next couple of years before he meets shake in solitude, other than his parents. he focuses on school and then on work when he gets his first job at thirteen, a bagger at a small grocery store. he gets his first job so early because his parents hit a rough patch when his dad is inexplicably fired despite being a model employee (the real reason was racism 😐) and frylock gets a job to help out. this leads to a lot of the financial stress being shifted onto him for a while and, while frylock’s dad does soon get another job, frylock is forever left stressed out about finances. frylock already grew up too early and had a shitty childhood at that, being both an only child and “mature for his age.” the stress of the finances only add to it, and that is a big reason behind why i think frylock is so money conscientious. but yeah, frylock starts his freshman year and meets shake, and that’s the end of his childhood lore!! (again, not including more of the lore that happens in high school, but that’s a post for another day)
maybe not in the traditional way someone would have ocs, but i do!! my ocs are frylock’s and shake’s respective parents, but i also have a couple of (very very unimportant) side ocs, primarily only around during shake and frylock’s time in school. thank you so much for asking case!!! :D
