This doesn’t technically count as a spoiler since Word of Honor Episode 29 is already out but I’m gonna tag this with spoiler anyways

I don’t know if this is a reach, or if someone else already pointed this out, but I think this particular shot in episode 29 is a really beautiful and significant one:

So I noticed at this point that they zoomed in on the flowers on the tree, and honestly, maybe it’s just meant to be a really pretty shot (and it is one), but I feel like it could possibly be a subtle reminder of the red flower paintings, especially when paired with the background shot of Zhou Zishu’s worried form crouched over Wen Kexing’s unconscious and severely injured body.

I think it’s pretty well established that the flower portrait we saw in the first episode - and even the one that was on the floor when Zhou Zishu, Wen Kexing and Chengling first arrived back at the Four Seasons Manor, represented Zhou Zishu’s fallen brothers. Zhou Zishu painted a flower red in the first episode, leaving one white one, symbolizing that there is only him left - and he did that during a time of deep despair, where he was sitting there faced with the deaths of everyone he has loved and the destruction of his sect.

I don’t know what it is, but something about this zoom in just brings to mind that first scene, and while this plant obviously isn’t a painting, I couldn’t help but be struck watching it the first time around that all the flowers are red. Wen Kexing had just pushed himself to the brink of madness to try and bring back Han Ying, and at this point Zhou Zishu really doesn’t know if he’s going to be okay. In the same instance, he knows that the defenses against the Window of Heaven won’t last. I think at this point he has already decided to sacrifice himself to keep Chengling and Wen Kexing safe. Disregarding Chengling for now, who is the sixth generation of disciple, both Wen Kexing and Zhou Zishu are the last of the original first generation. Technically the last of the original 81 (or well. 82 I guess in this case). And, in a way, they’ve both just sacrificed themselves in that instance. I think the flowers only bring to stark relief that they’re once again on the brink of destruction of the home they had only just managed to build together.
