“Like what you see, sweetheart?”
You rolled your eyes at Wainfleet flexing his muscles in front of the mirror in the training room and turned to grab your water bottle. “Pack your tits back up, Lyle”, you muttered between gulps, “I wasn’t interested before we kicked the bucket and I’m sure as hell not interested now.” You couldn’t fully suppress the smile tugging on your lips, because it was a blatant lie. The two of you had been casually hooking up all the time before you both met your maker in the battle of the Hallelujah Mountains.
“Well, a damn shame”, he sighed with a smirk before walking over to sit down on the bench next to you, “thought it wouldn’t hurt if I shoot my shot again. Guess I was wrong.” Lyle grabbed his chest like he was in serious pain and leaned away from you dramatically. “I get it, though”, you chuckled with another eye roll, “I’m still looking irresistible.” Laughing and shaking his head, Lyle got up and back to lifting weights. It was comforting that, despite being in different bodies, the energy between the members of Team Deja Blu was still the same. You still weren’t comfortable seeing your new self in the mirror, something in your brain wouldn’t fully accept that this was you staring back. The only you that would ever look back from now on. After taking a few deep breaths you returned to the treadmill. “Are you tackling the obstacle course with me later?”, he asked between grunts.
“Sure, can’t hurt to get some extra training in while we can”, you huffed and adjusted the slope of the treadmill, “what do you think? Do we fly out tomorrow after the briefing or does the Colonel give us another day to prepare?” Lyle left the question linger for a moment and looked at you before he sat down the weights with a loud thud. “You’re scared.”
You stepped off the treadmill and started chewing on your cheek. “Last time we went out there, we died.” With a sharp inhale he leaned back, assessing you again with a raised eyebrow. “You should be reevaluated by one of the doctors”, he sighed and stood up. You crossed your arms in front of your chest and raised an eyebrow yourself. “I mean, you’re clearly struggling with the transition”, he continued, knocking the wind out of you, “and therefor with fulfilling the mission.” There was no denying it, they all had noticed how you avoided to look at yourself in mirrors or any reflective surface for that matter. How you got constantly irritated by your tail and kuru. This body simply did not feel like yours.
“I mean, I totally get it.” His words sounded distant. “It’s a strange and fucked up feeling and the last time we all went out, we died. The Colonel let you stay behind as back up to give you some more time to adjust when we went to gather some intel.” He paused as if he was trying to find the right words. “And then we come back with his, well, son and some of the initial team dead, again. Doesn’t look good, I admit.” You wanted to say something but he wasn’t finished yet. “And that is exactly why you need to be in your best form, physically and mentally, to come back out with us.”
“I know”, you swallowed hard and awkwardly scratched your head, “oh god, he will be so pissed.” Lyle smiled in an attempt to comfort you a bit, then said: “Of course, but the Colonel will be even more pissed if you get yourself or someone else killed on mission.” “True”, you let out a dry and humorless chuckle while gathering your things and heading for the showers. Without missing a beat, Lyle fell into step right behind you.
“What do you think you’re doing?”, you asked while trying not to grin. You knew what was coming, it had always started like this. You headed somewhere private and he would seize the opportunity. “Oh, I was just thinking of anything I could do to make you more… comfortable in your new body”, he said trying to sound as casual as possible. Your ears perked up instinctively, your tail started flicking with excitement and there was nothing you could do about it. You absolutely hated that now he could read you like an open book. Irritated, you stopped in the middle of the short hallway.
“You know”, he walked up close behind you and leaned forward to whisper in your ear, “you’re pretty cute when you try to play not interested.” He always knew how to get you forget your worries, it was the reason you two started hooking up in the first place. Why you were always looking for private corners he could follow you to.
His hands found your hips and his warm breath tickled you neck as he continued: “Now put one foot in front of the other or we might not make it to the shower.” Lyle didn’t need to tell you twice, not only did his erection poking into your back make a very convincing point, you also could already feel the heat pooling between your legs. Without facing him, you grabbed his wrist and pulled him towards the small changing room in front of the actual shower room. The moment the door closed behind you, he spun you around and pulled you into a deep kiss. The same touch you knew, the same taste and smell. Like nothing had ever happened.
Without wasting any time he started to fumble with the buttons of your pants, his lips leaving yours only for long enough so you could pull your top over your head. You barely registered him getting out of his own pants after your own fell down to your ankles and you kicked them off together with your shoes.
“You’re beautiful”, he whispered between kisses while guiding you into the shower, “you always were.”
“You know that’s not what’s bothering-”
“I know. It’s still the truth.”
Your back suddenly hit the cool tiles of the shower wall and Lyle pulled away for a second to turn on the water. Under the warm spray he leaned forward again, peppering your neck and shoulders with kisses while his hands roamed your body, leaving you wanting more.
A gasp escaped your lips when his fingers slid between your legs, skillfully teasing your most sensitive parts. “That’s it, sweetheart”, he whispered, his lips brushing against your ear, “just let go.” Your hands found his hard length and he groaned into the nape of your neck when you started stroking him.
“I want you. Now.”
His low voice, authoritative and strained with lust at the same time, sent a shiver down your spine and you wrapped your arms around his neck and your legs around his waist as he grabbed your rear and lifted you up against the tiles. Slowly and purposefully he pushed into you, savoring the feeling of filling you up. Once he was completely inside you, he gave you a moment to adjust, nibbling on your earlobe and kissing your neck.
“Everything okay?”
You nodded, allowing yourself to get lost in the sensations and he began to move with rhythmic thrusts, sending electric jolts of pleasure through your entire body. The sounds of the falling water mixed with your moans and gasps, the wet slapping of skin against skin echoing in the steamy shower room.
“I’m close”, he groans, picking up the pace. The feeling of his skin on yours mixed with the faint smell of his sweat and the sensation of the warm water running down your bodies paired with his deep thrusts made the pressure building inside you almost unbearable and your last efforts to draw out the pleasure faltered. Your orgasm crashed over you like a tidal wave and you dug your fingernails into his shoulders. With another deep groan he pulled out, spilling his release over your stomach and chest. With a relieved chuckle he set you down, carefully steadying you and himself against the tiles, caging you in between him and the wall.
“I have to admit, I missed this in the last weeks since we woke up”, he whispered and kissed your forehead. You looked up with a dazed grin.
“Yeah, me too.”
“Good.”
You quickly cleaned yourself and returned to the changing room, grabbed your clothes and started to get dressed. Lyle followed shortly, doing the same.
“So, you want me to go with you?”, he asked as he put on his boots. “Go where?”, you asked in return.
“The doctor, your reevaluation?”
You stood up with a sigh and turned towards the door: “No. I think, I’ll go out with you. No more delays.” You opened the door and looked back at him, suddenly realizing he had gotten up as well and was already halfway at the door.
“Do you really think that is a good idea?”
“What is?”
Your head snapped around and you felt like you were about to pass out as you were met with Colonel Miles Quaritch standing in the small corridor, his arms crossed over his chest, ears perked up and his tail twitching behind him. You could hear Lyle exhaling sharply behind you. The Colonels eyes wandered from you to Lyle and back, the faintest smirk tugging on his lips.
“Lyle, could you please give us some privacy, I’d like to talk to the corporal alone.”
Lyle mumbled something along the lines of “understood, Sir” and quickly walked past you and the colonel and back into the training room. Quaritch waited a moment until the door fell shut, then looked at you for what felt like an uncomfortable eternity.
“I wanted to know if you’re ready to fly out with us tomorrow”, he stated plainly, still assessing you like he was trying to figure out the entirety of what he had just interrupted. When you didn’t answer immediately, his ears started twitching impatiently and he continued: “I need you out there, the team needs you out there and I don’t know what the RDA will do when they deem you a waste of resources. I know it’s not what you want to hear, but it is what it is. So I ask you again, can you do this?”
You swallowed hard. It wasn’t much of a choice, not really. You nodded and took a deep breath: “Yes, Sir. I’m ready.”
“Good.”
His gaze lingered on you a little longer, probing, assessing, although you weren’t sure if this was about your capability as a soldier or the situation with Lyle. Without another word he turned around and left you alone in the corridor, feeling like the walls were collapsing down on you. I don’t know what the RDA will do when they deem you a waste of resources. The colonels words echoed through your mind and you hadn’t noticed that Lyle had stepped back into the hallway until he put his hand on your shoulder.
“Hey, are you okay?”, he asked, slowly bringing you back into the moment. “Yeah, well, guess the reevaluation is out of question”, you answered and bit your cheek, “I’m going out with you tomorrow.”
He didn’t probe and you were thankful for it. Gently, he took your hand and gave it a reassuring squeeze.
“I’ve got your back out there, we all got each others backs, okay?”
“Yeah”, you paused for a moment, then walked towards the door, “do you still want to run the obstacle course?”
