Sometimes I say that too tbh. But in the end no one is really truly alone in this world. I went through periods of pure fucking loneliness because I was surrounded by assholes who abandoned me (sorry, depressing talk). But trust me, somewhere, far away or closer, there is and end to this tunnel of dispair.
13. What’s the best writing advice you’ve ever come across?
14. What’s the worst writing advice you’ve ever come across?
alright so i’ve been studying writing a very long time, both formally and informally, and what i’ve found to be the truest advice is all advice is arbitrary and easily subject to change. even basic rules of grammar can be totally, justifiably upended in a story to communicate a certain tone. so you have to use the rules/advice that work best for the story you’re trying to tell.
a lot of the common advice, even, like “show don’t tell” and “said is dead” etc etc etc can be taken to unpleasant extremes. sometimes you do have to tell your reader shit, or your reader won’t know what you’re talking about (unless you don’t want your reader to know - see, again, everything’s arbitrary nothing is real art is a lie), and “said” is one of those very useful invisible words so when you replace it, you should have a reason, like trying to communicate inflection or smth.
if you were to ask me for advice based on what works for me, i think the most important thing is writing for yourself! i’m at my best when i’m happy with a story and having a good time with it, and when i’m writing it with myself as the intended audience. idk, it helps me a lot and it makes it a much more fun process for me, because i’m doing something i like (esp for fanfic, oh man, if you’re already doing it for fun you should be the one having the most fun)! and it stops you from tailoring your style to someone else, which tends to come off as false unless you’re very thoughtful about it. on the idea of style, don’t stress over it. i hear about a lot of writers who worry about finding their style, and it’s actually really easy. your style is just however you write. it can shift and change and evolve, but you don’t have to work to “find” your voice; it comes naturally as you work. sooner or later you just come to recognize how you write as a style. nobody will ever tell a story the way you will - even if it’s the same story. everyone sees the world differently and the world is richer for your unique interpretation.
the one very common advice i hear and i find to always be true is that the good writers are also good readers, and that means anything, including fanfic. immersing yourself in published work in a novel and published work on ao3 is still immersing yourself in something, and it helps you learn, and helps you grow. even if you read something terrible and decide “ok well i’m DEFINITELY not gonna write like that” lmao
i also think it’s very important to be honest. your story shouldn’t lie to the reader, be it in terms of fact or emotion. genuine emotion will resonate with people and stick with them just as much as a good plot or stunning literary technique would. i still remember books i read as a kid that rang true with me in some way because of their emotional landscapes and i don’t know if i’d still enjoy them as books, but i’ll always have the feeling they gave me, and i try my best to express that in my pieces!
and the best advice is to keep going and practicing, because you can take a thousand writing classes and read a million books and if you’re not practicing your craft, it won’t make much of a dent. practice makes perfect and all that jazz
One thing I want to tell you is post limit sucks and I'm bored and "Marry Me" is rad and wait that's three things oops bye
Post limit is the fucking worst man, but you are a strong person and you can make it through this. We're all here for you.
If you're talking about the song then yes, Emilie Autumn is rad. I've only listened to a few of her songs but wow she is really talented and also beautiful aaahhh
I'm not really sure what to suggest but maybe you could try watching some videos or reading something?? Sorry I'm pretty crap at thinking of things to do when I'm bored
