Wallace Can Fly (mechanical butterfly) This story began when I bought my daughter a butterfly chrysalis. A few days later a large monarch butterfly with deformed wings emerged and Avelina named him Wallace. She was so sad that he could never fly but did her best to take care of him. When Wallace passed away I put him in a moisture chamber so I could straighten his crumpled wings. I discovered that his wings were actually fused together in many places. So this process created several rips. I then created antique gold filigree plates to fit under & over his wings like armor w/ a matching suit for his. When I created the mechanism to make him fly I had to remove the antennae since they were extremely delicate. When I reattached them I gilded them in gold. I then added a fire sapphire crown to his head. My daughter cried with joy when she saw Wallace can fly. :) #monarchbutterfly #butterflywings #crumpledwings #tatteredwings #butterflywings #artinprogress #thestoryofwallace #averoseart #rebirth #secondchance #butterfly #mechanical #Automata #sapphire #steampunk #oddities #curiosities #automaton #wallacecanfly
