Okay so tungle is garbage and I’m going to stop testing that from now on, but my beloved @patternedlantern asked for DVD commentary about this portion of part 5 of Wallmates and luckily I saved my answer if not the ask itself:
It’s so nice to feel like things are normal again, to have some idea of where you stand with Javier, that you bask in it for a moment.
“Well,” you say finally, reluctantly. “I’ll see you tomorrow night then.”
And before you can talk yourself out of it, you dart up and kiss him on the cheek, feeling warm skin and the beginnings of stubble under your lips for just a heartbeat. It’s almost too much to meet his eye again when you pull back.
Gosh, it feels like ages ago that I wrote this now- thank you for the lovely nostalgia on this Tuesday afternoon 😍🥰
do you know, I don't think I've ever considered Javi's pov in this scene? I think Vecinita's feelings are easy to articulate- when you've been talking with someone for a while, and you're pretty sure there's a thing but not positive, because you've never dared mention it, of course, because what if they don't feel the same way? And then something happens that makes you second-guess the situation, and you're horribly stressed and distracted because it's all you can think about? But then you finally talk to them about it, and not only does it turn out that it was just a misunderstanding, but they in fact definitely feel the same way about you and suddenly your budding relationship has jumped a step further along.
Vecinita is feeling all of that sweet, giddy relief and joy in this moment. The kind you don't want to end, but which obviously has to at some point before you go too far and do something embarrassing. So she dared go just a little further and then fled the scene.
I think Javi is feeling some of that same relief- he feels the same way about her and their whole situation- but because he's Javi, he wouldn't have dared go any further in this moment. After his disastrous first proposition, and Vecinita initially saying what she did about being friends, he wants to be completely sure that she really does want more than friendship. Her kiss to his cheek was like a spark of hope, catching and keeping the kindling burning until the double date- but it's then that he's really sure, that the fire bursts to life, into proper flame ❤💋
