Why Tencent and Alibaba don't donate millions to China Red Cross?

One hour after the earthquake happened, One Foundation started its 1st-stage emergency relief of sending out rescue teams from Sichuan and around regions to the hit-area, searching and transferring the wounded.

At the same time, Jet Li kept updating the information of donation and rescue action on Weibo, of which a few entrepreneurs and companies were mentioned, like Liu Chuanzhi of Lenovo, Ma Yun(Jack Ma) of Alibaba, Wang Shi of Vanke and Ma Huateng (Pony Ma) of Tencent. Tencent and Alibaba contributed five million yuan respectively.

It is an embarrassing fact that one gets the earnest efforts from major private entrepreneurs while the other is cast aside by Weibo users. One Foundation and China Red Cross were even in cooperation when the former first established in 2007, and only a few years later, the private charity organization has won more prestige and reputation than the governmental one.

Here are some quotes from the Baidu Baike introduction of One Foundation:

The whereabouts of the donations is the most concerned problem by many philanthropists. Charities has every problem that exists in fields of education, economy and health care. Problems are everywhere. People in China are willing to do good, but the thing is the contributed money doesn't end up in the hands of the needy, say, a sum of donation arrived in the disaster area through different organizations would probably has gone less than original, mysteriously.

It might be the basic reason that multiple entrepreneurs would like to put money in One Foundation.

Today (April 21st, 2013), Wang Shi claimed that he was trusted by Jet Li and Zhou Qiren, the director of One Foundation, to say a few words: "Though many enterprises make donations through One Foundation, which actually would haven't survived without Red Cross. One Foundation alone is not enough, and even with individual incidents, don't lose trust in the roles that Red Cross and civil administration system play in disaster relief.
