Being the nephew of the woman that is being ridiculed constantly by people not just publicly, but in the manor too, is a hard task really. Joaquin doesn't get enough credit for the support he provides his tía Catalina. In a summary, this guy is probably the most easy-going out of anyone that's relative to the Ainsworths. He's in love with the food and is heavily entertained by the drama that this rich family brings with him.
Unlike his aunt, Joaquin isn't making up an identity for himself. He legally moved to America to be with his aunt once she was married to Raymond, and has been there ever since. It's safe to say he's welcomed too, by everyone but Thea, that is.
Overall, he's really just a bucket of fun waiting to be played with.
