“I’m really not in the mood right now..” Billy said through gritted teeth. He was not having a good day and the last thing he needed was family coming in to add to the pile.

She wasn’t really sure why Liz had called her. It wasn’t like she could do anything. The guy was clearly knocked out cold. Dead. And there really wasn’t any way to be sure about the hunch --- but her Mom was good at these things. He was found in the middle of nowhere. Didn’t look like a drug user. Didn’t smell like a drunk. There was dried blood on his neck, highlighting a place where a bite mark would have been. And he was dead. Just not exactly dead. In transition. Someone had probably fed on him, drained him, panicked and tried to heal him and then bolted when it hadn’t been enough to save him. And now he was here. Dragged out of the middle of the forest and into the back of her mom’s cop car, his head and half his torso propped on her lap while her Mom drove back into town. They’d already had the ‘we can’t take him to the station’ argument. She’d won. For now. So for now --- they were going home. But before they could, she felt his pulse return, saw the movement of his eyes behind his lids. Caroline swallowed, trying her best to appear as calming as she could when he woke up. ❝ Hi, ❞ Not her best start --- not the worst either though, she imagined. ❝ You’re okay. I’m Caroline, you’re...we’re taking you someplace safe. ❞ She paused, studying his face, mulling over whether or not it was a good idea to say more before figuring it probably wasn’t. ❝ Do you remember your name? ❞ / @war-torn-beaut + plotted things !
The Night We Met || Charley & Billie || @war-torn-beaut
Charley held tightly to Sam's hand. They had been at Fort Benning since almost the beginning. It was while they were there that a breach had happened early on, and the walkers had bitten Evan. They'd gotten just enough time to say goodbye before the man in charge had ordered all of those that had been bitten or injured to be executed. She had pushed Sam's face into her stomach, holding her hands over his ears as the sounds of gunfire filled the air once more. When it was over, her loving husband and Sam's father was gone. They hadn't even gotten to bury him. Instead, they had put them all in a pile with the walkers and burned all of their bodies as if they were nothing. That had been three, maybe four, months ago, and Sam still woke up having nightmares.
But today, they had woken up to another nightmare. The compound walls were breached again, and there was no stopping them this time. It was run or get bit, or worse, eaten. She picked up Sam, holding him close as they made their way through the crowds of frightened men, women, and children. She had kept running until she was certain that they were out of harm's way. Her lungs felt as if they would burst with her labored breathing.
They had no supplies, but what was worse, is that she had no way of protecting her or her boy. She desperately wanted to protect him, but she had been sheltered for so long at Fort Benning, that she wasn't sure where she needed to go to get food and water or weapons. They had taken all weapons away from the civilians upon arrival, and she knew they were inside the walls somewhere. If only she could hide Sammy away somewhere safe and wait for the walkers to leave the military base, then maybe she would have a chance.
It took days for the walkers to leave the base. Days that they both went without food and water. They managed to survive by staying quiet and staying in the place where she'd found the only shelter for what seemed like miles. She had left her son behind, telling him to not move a muscle until she returned, praying with everything left inside her that he'd do exactly that. She had made her way through the twisting and turning halls of the base, looking behind every door for weapons to protect her and Sam when she heard a voice at the end of the hall. She pressed herself flat against the wall, hoping the darkness inside the building would hide her from whoever was still inside.

Her sleek black Jaguar had a fresh coat of paint. She’d just won the little sports car in a race, the man she’d got it from had a BIT of a gambling problem that worked out in her. She’d just picked it up from the body shop earlier that day, Not only did they paint it, they did her lights which now had a pink cover over them, she had pink under carriage lights to match. Dana and the speed limit weren’t friends, she was honestly driving too fast to even be able to see the sign. Not that she was trying. What DID catch her eye was a nicely dressed man on the side of the road. She was going to fast to stop right there but she did slow to turn back around and then pull up behind him. He was definitely attractive, it was a shame she wasn’t going to ruin her six hundred dollar heels on the pavement. She’d already had them off while she was driving, leaving an AWFUL date. She slid on flip flops as she got out, “Hey you okay? I know a little about cars if you need help,” Dana offered him. Men were always skeptical sometimes downright rude about it....even close to hostile, “What’s wrong with it?” she asked him.
She pushed her car door closed adjusting her little red dress. If his car needed any serious work she had a pair of coveralls she could slip on over top of her clothes really quickly. She approached him and her cherry red lips pulled into a smile, “I just hate to see a Damsel in distress you know?” she added teasingly.
It’s more of a genuine interest. Casual, but genuine. He’d handled it differently from her; she who’d picked it up from movies and the targets at the shooting range that Fisk had subsequently paid for - in more than one way.
Point being, she could appreciate the handling of a firearm. That, and she had positively no tact when introducing herself. “No more reason that the passing interest of a weapon enthusiast.”
Her associates, not a single one approved of guns, and meant she typically wouldn’t use them in their presence. It didn’t stop her practicing at the range, though. Keeping her aim sharp. All of this in the name of introducing herself, and she still hadn’t given her name. Awkwardly, she extends an hand in his direction. “Maya. That was good shooting.”

She was mostly just there to observe Karen in her element. Note how she talked, how she managed to get people to give her the real side of the story. And maybe, just a little, she was there because she was worried. Overly protective of her friend. And, well, Karen was just about as reckless as she was when it came to a good story, or someone she cared about. The last thing she wanted was to watch the blonde run headlong into danger just to get a good edge for the Bulletin. Nevertheless, she was mostly sticking to the sidelines today, trying to blend in as best as she could. Which really gave her the opportunity to watch him. Hot guy --- the kind that definitely knew it --- flirted with anyone that gave him a second glance whether he meant to or not. Charming in the way that snakes were. That Damon was. Charming in a way that he knew it lured people in. Caroline fiddled with her pen for a moment before she turned, canting her head to the side as she looked at him. ❝ Russo, right? ❞ Pushing off the wall, she stood a bit straighter and held out her head. ❝ Caroline Forbes, I work at the Bulletin with Karen. I uh, I read your profile online. Really impressive. ❞ / @war-torn-beaut + plotted things !

Rick hadn't hesitated to ask Joanna to accompany him to the annual Christmas party at the police station, and he was ecstatic that she'd agreed and that her schedule allowed her to accept. He picked her up promptly at seven, kissing her cheek before breathing into her ear that she looked amazing.
Joanna's breath was taken away as they stepped into the station that had been transformed into a Winter Wonderland. She clung to Rick's hand, anxious about fitting in with his work friends and their significant others. They'd been on plenty of dates, but she hadn't met anyone but Shane and their Chief.
He purposefully stepped under where the mistletoe hung. His lips curled into a grin as he pointed up playfully. "May I?"
She leaned in close to him, placing her hand on his chest as the hand that held hers now slipped around her waist. "You may."
He kissed her softly, letting their noses rub together slowly as the kiss deepened.

Charley couldn't have been happier when Billy suggested they go and find something for Sam for Christmas. He'd stumbled upon a mall that had a toy store that hadn't been touched since before the Outbreak. No one thought of toys for the children as they were scrambling to escape with their lives and then after toys were a luxury that most couldn't afford to search for, but he'd wanted to make this special for the boy, and she couldn't be more smitten with him if she tried.
Billy smiled as they managed to get into the mall without alerting any of the walkers that were milling about. They'd snuck right past them and up the stationery escalator to the second floor where the store was located. "Even found a store that was all decked out for the holidays, too. Should be wrapping paper if we have time..."
She used the flashlight to check out the toys, grabbing several that he was sure to enjoy and then moved to where a couple board games they could all play together sat. She could barely lift the bag once she was finished grabbing everything she thought her son would like.
"Let me," he said softly, taking it from her and lifting it like it was nothing. He then lead her to the store with the wrapping paper and other holiday things had also been left relatively untouched. "Grab a couple rolls and some tape." It was then that her hand reached out to stop him. "What is it?"
She pointed up to where there was a little bit of mistletoe hanging from the shelf above their heads. "I just wanted to thank you for doing this. For Sam, I mean. He's going to love this." She leaned up on her tiptoes and kissed his cheek. "I know I do."
He then turned his head and kissed her softly on the mouth. "Just want to make his life as normal as possible. Yours, too. When I can, I mean." He pulled her into a hug. Things had changed for them with this trip. All he could hope was that they changed for the better.
