Racking Inspections - A MUST DO ACTIVITY!

All Canadian employers have a  responsibility to protect their employees and visitors to their facilities from risks associated with improperly installed or damaged storage racking.

Local workplace safety standards require regular in-house inspections to be carried out by the employer and an annual expert inspection by a "Technically Competent" person.  The responsibilities for each inspection are as follows:

End user Inspection- Is a weekly or monthly observation by an 'in-house' person responsible for monitoring racking condition and watching out for damage caused by forklift encounters, overloaded shelves, etc.

Expert Inspection- It is wise to have a fresh set of eyes from an external racking professional to review your site on a frequent basis - no less than annually.

Obviously you can view this can as a necessary evil to comply with local safety codes. But really, the true benefit is to provide a safe work environment that protects workers from unnecessary injury, and minimizes the effort and cost to recover from a failed rack in your facility.
