Had some time between jobs towards the end of my shift this evening to doodle a little so I did some maniacal scribbles of my Scaldra Defector Proto, Beauregard.
Yeah, so. Testing the waters with posting my art. 😅 I was working on my protoframe OC, based entirely on a warframe i made for the endurance of Hybrlythia (the warframe AU me and my partner have). That warframes name is Numine. Anyway, Meet Katie, a former Dax of the orokin empire. I'm still working on her lore.
Anyway, heres the images (progress shots included! Please see the cut for those and a small ramble about my process, as well as prior versions!)
Okay, so first of all, i'll show the process shots from above.
With the first image, i had been trying to see what i was missing, the cleaned up sketch is from my one of previous attempts(which i'll show below soon).
I copied it to see if my brain could add what was missing, which resulted in me adding the tail in the end. I thought it would make the design more interesting and appealing to myself, which it did. After that, though, i figured that she took her clothes off before even getting turned into a protoframe (turned out to be a very good choice on her end), and so, thought it might be a good idea to draw what was hidden beneath her clothes, so i copied the tail to the more cleaned up sketch and cleaned it up again.
After that, i got to work on the second image and thought about what could be hidden beneath her clothes. I wanted to keep it simple and so focused on shapes less than intricate details (which i'm glad i did). After that came the base colours, which i shaded and then rendered to get the above cut image.
Okay, onto the my previous versions (including a doodle i had done when warframe 1999 was announced and we found out about the protoframes)
Above are all the designs i tried prior, and a doodle from when i was trying to work it out. My art seriously has come a long way since we found out about 1999. Which i honestly forgot when that was 😂
[Summary: He always runs, he always tries to stay away when she just wishes to be next to him. He knows her warmth is meant for him, to comfort him - but it end it only makes him feel worse;]
[Drifter OC (mine) x Kullervo Protoframe (not mine oc, but one I love)]
At this point I am just gonna make this a little series. I could literally write my thought on their beginning to - well, lovers. Guilty as charged. But no, I instead write something short about that one thing that occupied my mind after reading some lore again. Sorry if it is a little ooc; @s-vasaris *wave*
Important reminder: Always ask for permission before you write or draw something involving someone elses character! Hanon is NOT my OC. This fanfic is one of my thoughts about him written down since like I said, I really love the OC. Just be respectful okay? Thank you!
Rage. Rage fuelled by his anger. That one emotion that makes his blood boil, numbs his mind and keeps him moving forward, perhaps even more than the sorrow and fear does. When he's angry, he's strong, he's fast, he's unstoppable and unbreakable. Yet he becomes dangerous to those he would never wish to hurt at all. Perhaps that’s why his subconscious makes him stay away from others, even when they tell him to stay close.
Hanon holds the heavy blade in his hand, gripping the hilt so tightly that he almost wonders if he could snap it — were it not one of the Operator weapons. A rare 'thank you' to Orokin technology then. He takes short, yet deep, breaths, trying to collect his thoughts and regain his composure. It is much easier now that he has pleased the infection. It was what they wanted after all: a quick slaughter, blood spilled and destruction caused. Their words slowly faded into mumbles and then into the sound of something moving through his mind, before finally settling. He feels his blood finally cooling down, the former heat burning through his veins turning into a warm glow . Along with it, the pain sets in, becoming much more present now that the knives have returned. They are nestling where they have marked their home: inside his chest, his back and his guts. It is the all-familiar pain of impalement and even though he doesn’t bleed anymore, the knives make it feel like they cut him open whenever they return.
"You always run off when I'm not looking at you" A voice emerges, heavy footsteps resonating through the air before he turns to look at the Drifter. There, standing in front of him, in the shape of Dagath, the Hollow Rider. Her hands covered in blood, weapon tightly gripped and the familiar Helmith Charger next to her. She must have cleared the other area. "Lif, shouldn’t you be used to it by now? How can I hold myself back when I have the opportunity to catch them by surprise? You have to be fast, Drifter" he tells her with a cheeky smile. He turns around to fully face her, tilting his head slightly from side to side. His neck feeling a little stiff. "Oh, don’t come with that. At this point, you might be a Kavat" she responds, while shaking her head. He can’t deny that he’s rather fond of the fact that she so often gets the irony in his words and responds with some of her own. But then the tone of her words changed: "Honestly, don't run away from me. We're a team, after all. I know you're more than capable of taking care of yourself and yet I still worry"
His cocky smile disappears, replaced by a slightly sorrowful, unreadable expression. Lif really knows how to affect him with her words — with how much she seems to care for him. At such moments, he often feels at a loss as to how to act. At the beginning of their time together, he might have told one of his “funny facts” or made one of his rather dark jokes, but that didn’t work back then and it wouldn't work now. Yet he must say something, otherwise, the sorrow he experiences when he hears her worried voice will only add to his existing guilt.
"I'm better on my own. You know there's no mercy in my abilities, no difference between friend and foe. Even if I don’t want to, I could hurt you. You could say that I'm doing you a favour by keeping my distance. In the end, we still work together: you do your part and I do mine" He’s not lying; everything he says is absolutely true. There's no point romanticising the fact that he isn't cut out for teamwork anymore, maybe he never was. It's just better this way. "Are you really this worried about hurting me? You shouldn’t be. I’m much tougher than I look, and even if I am hurt, it’s not your fault. Also it is so hard to believe that I trust you?" Hanon watches as she takes a few steps closer and gently places her hand on his shoulder, a gesture showing her empathy and her willingness to be there for him.
Instead of fully feeling her warmth, he only feels fear. Immense fear. A fear caused by the sudden disappearance of the infestation in his head combined with lack of pain that normally runs through his body. He had experienced this feeling before when she had brushed his hand once. Somewhere in his mind, he remembers her mentioning that the Warframes had gone crazy due to the infestation and it was the Tenno who had calmed them down, keeping the infestation at bay. A comforting thought, if it weren't for the fear of it all being gone — the hive no longer playing with his mind, the pain no longer running through his flesh and bones and no proof of his very existence. As a result, he pulls himself away from her almost immediately. As her warmth disappears, the noises return, as does the pain. The fear is gone, but the sorrow has been fuelled, as has his anger for doing this to her. He just watches as she stands there, her arm slightly pulled away and no words coming from her for what feels like minutes.
"Sorry. I... I didn’t mean to"
“It’s okay, Drifter"
Lif finally drops her arm and returns to her former position. The Helmith Charger next to her starts to bark andgrowls loudly as the sound of a vehicle echoes through the area. "Just forget it Hanon. It's my fault, I should have known my boundaries...” She apologises, before turning away from him. Fear returns to Hanon, making him feel as if he has pushed her too far away. "I'm going to take care of this on my own. I'll see you later..." she mumbles towards him before she dissapears.
And he? He just stands there for a moment. Watching as his guilt is filled by his anger, sorrow and fear.
[Summary: "No. I can save them." "Not unless you know them."
Saving them is as much of a priority as stopping the indifference — after all, they had nothing to do with this. It's not their fault they were pulled into this mess coming from the Origin System. But how can they be saved? How can someone like her, who was trapped inside her own creation, possibly help them? Specialy when one of them resembles a fellow prisoner she knows. Someone important to her. How can she save him from the weight of his own guilt?]
|| As promised, here is my long fic about my Drifter and @s-vasaris's Protoframe Kullervo concept. The focus will be on their relationship evolving from neutral to best friends/lovers. Please don't judge me, her deserves all the Drifters. But yeah, I'm focusing on exploring how things would be. I hope you enjoy it! I'll probably post the other chapters as reblogs. waves Gremlin out!||
Important reminder: Ask for permission before using someone else OC! Hanon is not my OC but I absolutely love him! My writings are mine so they are not canon! Just me writing stuff.
Once again, the Zariman had turned into another nightmare. Showing how powerless even someone like her can be. Lif, the Drifter, watches in horror as she crumbles under the pressure of the Indifference. Eleanor was the first to die and with her, Lettie’s life disappeared too. And things didn't get any better when she reached Quincy. She watched helplessly as the sniper gave into his fate. What could someone like him do against a fucking tank? How amused the Indifference must be right now. It is feasting on the growing despair in the Drifter’s heart. "Couldn’t help, kiddo?" it mumbles almost cheerfully as Lif tries to remove the black liquid from her body. This can’t be it. No, no, NO! There must be a way to help someone, at least. Lif quickly moves on, trying to find the next Hex member. Luckily, she finds Hanon. The man who resembles Kullervo. But what she sees does not give her much hope: the man is fighting like a feral beast. Knives fly around, cutting anything in their path until nothing is left. Until the only thing they can cut through, is himself. She takes a deep breath and looks at the silhouette before her. "I won't." Closing her greenish-blue eyes, she focuses and takes one last breath. The woman loses her consciousness for a few seconds while she uses the transference on the protoframe. It works. But something screams painfully and unwelcomely. It does not want her.
Her consciousness returns and she gasps for air, her vision still blurry. At least one transference has worked. But is that enough when she has already lost Lettie, Eleanor and Quincy? Why didn't it work? The Tenno managed to calm the Warframe back then, so why can't she? Why can't she get through to them? The Indifference's voice still lingers in her ears, laughing and mocking her, sounding utterly amused. She won't give it the pleasure of abandoning them. As her eyes adjust to her new surroundings, Lif realises that this is not the view through Hanon's eyes. She had managed to perform a transference between herself and Hanon. So how is she seeing Duviri through her own eyes? But how is this possible? Is this really Hanon's?
A painful surge of pain washes over her senses, making it hard for her to concentrate. Her eyes take in her surroundings; this isn't just Duviri, this is Kullervo’s hold. His prison. But then her vision glitches, switching between the familiar place and a metro station. Wait, is this Höllvania? "I keep him locked up here for his own safety and that of —" a voice declares, its tone almost disgusted. Lif recognises that voice. It's the voice of that Warden Lif knows and hates, the man she suspects to be Ballas. That disgusting piece of Orokin scum. Then the voice switches, sounding like someone else. Not just like one person. But many. All of them have an eerie undertone to their voice. Like something is crawling around, twitching and murmuring. The infestation — the infestation inside Hanon’s head. The voices start to squeal and move around inside her mind, assaulting her senses even more. "Everyone" all the voices say at once.
Steps, heavy steps. And the sound of something metallic sliding over the ground. Someone is getting closer. Lif turns around, eyes wide open as the person comes into view. It’s Hanon, the usual ponytail open, his blue and red hair hanging down his shoulder. He doesn’t look at her, his head hanging down while, his gaze facing the ground.Something is wrong, something is totally wrong.. "See where we rot. The mother-killer, The betrayer. The ingratitude" the Infestation screeches in unison with the Warden's voice. Making it so hard for her to focus. "He made it worse. We made it worse. Our help only made it harder" the other voices follow. Lif quickly covers her ears in response. The voices are getting louder and louder. She heard those words before, heard the Warden denounce Kullervo, judge him, shame him and rip off the last bit of dignity he had. But those other voices, what they are saying. What they are calling out… those are not once meant for Kullervo, they are meant for Hanon. But why? Why would anyone say something like this towards him? “Ahhh!” Lif yells loud as another wave of pain makes it’s way through her body and especially her mind. She can only guess what is happening right now. The Infestation is attempting to stop the Transference. Lif tries to get herself under control. Biting her lips painfully and focusing her gaze on Hanon while the world around her is glitching around. She watches him getting closer and closer, sometimes switching between himself and that of Kullervo. Is the infestation confused? Does it believe this is the same person? Or did it find similar patterns between them? “Hanon…” She mumbles, trying to get the man’s attention. but he’s not reacting at all. Despite the difficulty of seeing, she recognises that he’s holding a blade, probably the source of that metallic sound scratching the ground. After all, he's holding it with only one hand. As he gets closer, it becomes clear what blade he’s holding. It’s Vaenn, Kullervo’s blade.
"We feel so angry... so extremely angry. Cut and slice. Cut and slice. We are friend of the blade" the infestation murmurs, making its way into every corner of her mind. "We are so scared... Who are we? What is left of us?'" Lif hears something heavy being raised. Her breathing gets faster and her heart starts to race. No, no, no! It's trying to cut her off! As she tries to grab her pistol, feeling it with her fingertips, she realises she’s not fast enough. Within seconds, pain rushes through her body, leaving her completely paralysed. Her Sirocco drops to the ground. Slowly, her gaze wanders, finally taking in what has happened. Vaenn is stuck right through her chest. It cut through her body as though she was made of paper. Blood is rushing to her throat and slowly dripping out of her mouth, suffocating her. With her last bit of strength, she tries to focus on the man before her. What she sees almost breaks her. His eyes are completely empty. There is no light in them. No sign of any emotion. Strange. Since there are tears in the corners of his eyes. "No escape... We deserve this... I deserve this" he whispers to himself. The man pulls the sword out of Lif’s chest and she drops to her knees in response. Her body is weak, on the verge of becoming lifeless. "Hanon..." she tries to speak. "Don't..." But her words are swallowed by the blood filling her throat and lungs. "We are... Guilty. We brought nothing but pain to others. We must atone for it. But how can you atone when nothing is left?” This time, the Infestation and Hanon speak in unison. Raising the blade once more. But he doesn’t grasp it by its handle. He grabs it by its steel. “Then why do I have to exist?” The Drifter's eyes widen as she tries to push herself forward with her remaining strength, but once more she is just not fast enough. The woman watches as he impales himself. Running the blade through his body, followed by all the knives that once rested inside him, piercing deeper into his half-metallic, half-human flesh. Despite her desperate attempts to reach out to him, she soon fades into darkness. Losing her consciousness once again.
"Oh, kiddo. Looks like you couldn’t save him? How sad, how really sad" the Indifference taunts her, acting pitifully as Lif’s mind returns to the Zariman. She sits on her knees and watches the silhouette before her. Lif tries to look away, but she just can’t. Having to carry the burden of guilt knowing that the man before her just took his own life. He couldn’t control it. His guilt finally consumed him. Impaling himself with the knives that already tried to end him once. "Just like some tragic hero, he tried to do good. But sometimes you can’t change who you are."
"And this kiddo... This is how the fourth one died. Stripped of any dignity."
