I’m watching the Mike Mignola documentary and it’s good, I really have to read past the first couple issues already lol. But the part about him taking in his first foray into New York in the 80s made me tangentially think about how, because mainstream comics really did stem from New York itself and the big city life, the medium has an inherent kind of urbanism attached to it that neither tv nor books really do, which is kind of fascinating. Comics weren’t invented (arguably) in 19th century NYC when cape comics became more prolific, but that was still the inception of the modern comics we see today.
