“Did I strike a nerve?” William’s head cocked ever so slightly to the right as a devilish, mocking grin stretched across his lips at his sister’s snappy comment. The smile was almost snake-like on an otherwise smooth face, eyes glinting under the shadow of the bowler hat laying lopsided on his head. He’d been in that same chair since morning, long legs stretched out in front of him and it was only until Hazel’s appearance that he’d given the smallest hint he was still breathing. 

“Tell me why that’s so. I’m certifiably cookoo -- we’re absolutely mad but the only thing keeping us different is that I’ve got the degree to prove it.” Finally, legs gave a twitch and suddenly he was pulling himself up almost painfully from the chair, long fingers grasping his cane as a crutch. A year in the private academy, most days spent crippled over in a straight-jacket gave his bones a sickly ache. He used to joke that it was the only ‘school’ he ever graduated from. “We’re so much the same it’s crazy.”

039. What do they think is the worst thing that can be done to a person?

        olivia is compassionate and kind and caring and loving and she feels like if you are capable of helping someone, you should. turning your back on someone who is asking for help is, while maybe not the worst thing a person can do to another, it certainly isn’t something that she would approve of. it explains a lot about why liv doesn’t seem frightened of poppy when she first encounters her, why she follows her and listens to her speak and that kindness was used against her in that moment but at the time, she thought she was helping. short of murder or assault or anything similar to that kind of trauma, it’s probably not the worst thing that could be done to a person.
