Water Shield Brasenia schreberi Cabombaceae (Watershield) Family

Water shield’s leaves are oval-shaped with no slit (as compared to waterlily’s). The stem and the underside of the leaves are coated with a gelatinous slime (making it hard to hold). As you can see in the photo, the flowers extend up from the water surface. There was also a lot of insects on the lake.
