Welcoming Uncle’s latest nephew Ian Lee @ugh_ian and niece Helen Yeung @chinesegoth into the fold by taking them to our favourite Malaysian Restaurant, Bunga Raya. Towkay Neo Rita does what she does best, being the charming host. We started with the Ling Collar Rice Vermicelli Soup, followed by Ian’s request, Hainanese Chicken Rice. Then a vegetable that brings nostalgia to the table, Kang Kung (Water Convolvulus), normally cooked with belacan but tonight, it was garlic. Then a dish that Uncle never has because of his SDRs, the magical Butter Prawn resplendent in a topping of crispy buttered egg white drop and dedicated coconut. So good, uncle could just munch on the topping. No dinner at Bunga Raya is complete without the world getting smaller. Owner Rita used to be a champion 10-pin bowler, winning gold at the SEA Games. On retirement she turned to coaching and Ian’s classmate was one of her students. Rita reveals she has subsequently been awarded a high honour by the Agong (King) of Malaysia.
