THE INTERVIEW.
What’s it like, living in Windsor Bay? Did you ever picture yourself settling down here or did you always know this would be your home?
"growing up here was good, i have no complaints or issues with that, i guess i just," he paused, a pensive frown crinkled his brow as he thought of his next words carefully, "never really thought i'd come back here." a shrug, "it was never really apart of the plan." the moment he'd said that brooks had wanted to take those words back. it implied that there had actually been a conversation about never moving back to oregon once he'd moved away. "it's been good for mason to be around family. especially since i take off for a bit here and there."
Would you say you’re easy to get along/work with? Why or why not?
there was a smile that slowly appeared while his eyes were somewhere off in the distance, clearly in thought. mostly over how he should answer. brooks didn't want it to sound crafted but he was a man of words, it was always like that. "depends," s shoulder shifted, "in general i think i'm fairly easy to get along with. i can sometimes take a little time to warm up and let conversation flow, these days at least, but i'm not unfriendly." then his head tipped to one side. "i'm pretty stubborn when it comes to my work, however. i know what i want and what my vision is and sometimes that means standing up and holding ground when it comes to executives." the smile he gave then hinted that it was likely well received.
Do you have any regrets? What are they?
"i have a ton. i'm suspicious of anyone that says they have none." he laughed a little, a sound low and personal, as though he was holding back true emotion. "the majority of them center around taking things for granted. for believing i had control of time. for not realizing how big and meaningful the little things are until it was too late," brooks admitted. it was then he became somewhat withdrawn, no detail or further explanation was going to be dropped beyond that. it was too personal.
It’s the little things in life; tell me three things that bring you a great deal of joy or put a smile on your face.
"nothing brings me more joy and puts a smile on my face like mason does. he's everything, and the legacy he carries…" it was a hint at brooks' late wife but instead of saying that he offered a bit of a mournful smile. "the community i've built and the people that i've connected with along the way when it comes to my journey, my adventures. that has been something that's brought me joy, and allowed me to feel connected when i've felt so…" brooks thoughts cut off there, mostly because when he made eye contact he was certain that the rest didn't need to be said. "slowly finding my way back to my writing again," he admitted, "that's brought me joy. mainly because it feels like finding myself after it seemed all was lost."
