# 20. lose something important
“Stop right there!”
The sound of the voice calling after him reaches Jongsuk’s ears, but he doesn’t comply, doesn’t so much as glance back as he watches the status bar on the computer creep closer to completion. His fingers are already curled around the usb drive that’s busy replicating the Lynx hacker’s hard drive, ready to yank it from the port and make his retreat the moment that the download finishes.
“MPD! Hands where I can see them!”
“I’m afraid my hands are a little busy right now, officer,” Jongsuk replies lightly, back still turned to the woman who no doubt has a gun aimed right at the back of his head. His fingers tap impatiently against the laptop’s wrist rest. His sharp eyes follow the status bar as it creeps along.
Another voice joins the woman’s behind him.
“Step away from the computer and show us your hands!”
So much for his easy in and out. One cop he could handle, but a pair of them could prove tricky-- especially when they have weapons aimed at his back while Jongsuk’s Colt is resting on the desk beside his hand. He has no doubt that the moment his fingers inch closer to his weapon, the cops would shoot.
One last glance at the status bar on the laptop before him proves that the download is a lost cause. If he wants to make a clean getaway, his only choice is to ditch it. He curses under his breath, more out of exasperation than true irritation. He’d just have to finish what he started later.
For now, it was time to get creative.
