gaia had spent the past eight months traveling ( egypt , japan , india , kenya ... the list goes on ). she always felt AT HOME while moving place to place. but she had missed her family so much that she wasn’t able to hold it in anymore and weekly phone calls could never measure up to the real thing. not even skyping or facetiming-- which was always disconnected somehow. “ i really missed you , dad , “ the dark haired woman pulled away from the hug. a hug that she so desperately needed after months of being away. gaia and logan hadn’t always been on great terms but she had always accepted her messy dad for who he was. “ did i miss anything ? “

FLASHBACK ; TWO+ YEARS AGO.

while they always had this COMPLICATED relationship ... hearing about logan’s death was something else entirely. there was this feeling that the man was immortal or as close as you could get to it. he was wolverine , he wasn’t supposed to DIE. especially in such a gruesome way. laura doubted herself & questioned her entire reason and existence. and what she was supposed to do since he was GONE. so afterwards , laura stepped up to the plate. she became wolverine. she dyed her hair. she saved people , she found her SISTERS ( he would have been proud of her if he got to see her when she took down alchemax ). 

it was a turning point in her life but it was also because of the death of logan. grief makes you do things you wouldn’t usually do. like becoming wolverine and dying your hair gold and blue.

laura’s not a hugger. anyone and EVERYONE knew that. but seeing logan across the hall for the first time since learning he had died ... it was a strange feeling. she didn’t feel the need to hug but it gave her a lot of relief. she had always looked up to him so much and respected him. she could never imagine a world where he wasn’t living.

life in paragon was going as well as gaia could hope. she was living AND working with her best friend , fernando loved the backyard he got with the house , she was working with children and had a second job at karma and her powers even seemed to be a little under control ? but not completely since she was still looking like a twenty year old when she should be looking like she was closed to twenty nine -- aka her real age. some days it did seem like she was closer to not looking like a baby but her powers had also been fluctuating since the day they manifested. 

she was also dealing with what had happened with victoria but she had chosen to push that into the back of her mind everytime it became something that she was supposed to deal with ( like when she had nearly hit her ex boyfriend with a bat when he visited -- she didn’t talk about that ). 

what gaia wasn’t expecting today was to find both of her parents together and standing outside of her front door. it definitely caught her by surprise. she tried to think back and see if she had done anything recently that would require this. she hadn’t done anything overly ridiculous and stupid recently ( that she could think of ). “ -- did we schedule a lunch that i forgot about ? “ it was the first and ONLY thing that came to mind. her parents visiting her just because ? or maybe they wanted to see how she was actually doing. in which case , she was FINE.

THE ( better ) WOLVERINE was hoping to go unnoticed. she had a ringing headache , she was sore all over from the mission that ended up being a lot longer than what she had expected. so she was tired. she wanted a nap. or some kind of a hibernation period. either of the above would be cool with her.

but she was also hungry. and a rally with food trucks and someone making burgers and hotdogs ? 

“ what ? “ she rolled her eyes , continuing to inhale the burger. “ fuck off , i haven’t eaten in days , “ she probably would have eaten anything that was put in front of her.
