"I always thought lantern shields were a bit odd. I was under the impression that they were patrol armaments, the sort of thing you'd carry when you were a guard, walking around a city at night. And that's not...untrue, per se, but I wouldn't want to draw attention myself like that.

"Legend has it that you would carry one if you had a duel at dusk or dawn in hopes of blinding your opponent. I expect it would...sort of work, if it was dark enough, but I wouldn't stake my life on it.

"I don't know whether your opponent's blade getting stuck in the openings would be more of a help or a hindrance--you'd be in control of their blade, but they'd almost equally be in control of your shield. Not ideal, especially when lantern shields are usually buckler-sized.

"All in all, not my favorite. Even back when I used a shield regularly, I always preferred a kite or heater shield--the corners were good weapons."

Weaponmaster Magus’s scythe

Giving it a few swings, Faris gave a surprisingly satisfied smirk. “I can see why Magus likes this thing, feels very satisfying in the hand, and surprisingly well balanced.” She said before examining the edge of the blade more closely. “Well maintained, sharp and keen, he keeps very good care of this. Not the first time I’ve tried using a scythe, so I know how hard it is to keep this thing sharp.”

“That’s pretty good for the warmup round. How about this bad boy?”

The way Tseng steepled his fingers and sighed was familiar to anyone who frequented the office.

"And what exactly is that?"

More like something that would come out of Scarlett's office, for sure. More absurd than the enormous swords that the SOLDIERs carried, by a long shot.

"It has the general form of an oversized hammer, but I'm sure it has some sort of firearm built into it--because why wouldn't it, clearly. It would take a specialist to use it, and I imagine it could do quite a bit of damage to someone not quick enough to get out of its way."

An exasperated sigh. "It's absurd," he said flatly. "It's a weapon designed for intimidation. Ostentatious. A distraction. If I saw someone with this, I'd keep alert for the real danger elsewhere."

This was, as the deputy chief of disguise was fond of saying, not on his bingo card for today.

It looked like a kettle. Not an electric one--no cord, and batteries couldn't power a heating element for long. Gas-burning, perhaps, but he didn't recognize the fuel canister as anything readily available--even by the Turks' somewhat relaxed standards on "readily available."

It seemed too subdued to be something that came from Scarlett's department. Most of the more covert things that came out of Weapons Development were designed by her subordinates, or by the Turks themselves. All the same, touching it did not seem like the best of ideas.

"Assuming that its function is, as stated, to heat liquid to boiling in short order," he said eventually, "that alone can have surprisingly good stopping power when used at the right time.

"The kettle itself seems to be made from something quite sturdy, could potentially be used as a bludgeoning weapon. A bit cumbersome, but you're in no place to be picky if you've resorted to using a kitchen implement as a weapon.

"Finally, the fuel canister. A liquid fuel will splash and, possibly, ignite--a gas fuel will explode. It could make a decent flashbang, but you'd better make it count."

He'd said finally, but he gave the device one more look-over. "The handle on the lid also appears to be sharpened, though it would only be effective at a very short range, into very specific targets."

Needless to say, it would not displace his tried and true.

"It doesn't have the reach I'm used to--" few things did, though, so that was hardly a fair thing to take marks off for "--but the balance is good and the edge is keen. The curve of the cutting edge gives it sharp corners, good for hooking--same reason Swallow has them. To a certain extent, I imagine you could probably reference zweihander techniques for it, and use it to advantage in a crowd."

For that, though, he'd prefer to have a slightly longer handle on it. Didn't want the crowd getting within striking range, after all. But the true edge/false edge principles and the sheer force of impact granted by the momentum of the zweihander might translate well...

"If I were given a choice in weapons that included an arming sword or a zweihander, I'd stick with one of those for the sake of familiarity. But absent a familiar option, I expect I could manage this just fine."

Weaponmaster. You see a massive, wickedly shaped blade, fit for a beast more than it is fit for a man. The heavy sword could cleave someone in half, but the spikes that emerge at random intervals throughout imply that would be the kindest death it has to offer. A massive golden star is set in the hilt.

It’s a beauty of a thing, in the way that something that by design can only mean unkindly can be. Weighty, but, tested with two hands, it certainly knows what to do with that weight- at a swing, all funnels down to the cutting edge.

The weight is the primary consideration- makes it difficult to handle, but with such a foreboding shadow, its teeth set to devour, there are few indeed who wouldn’t at least hesitate to lunge close after it.

While he leans towards the lightweight, swift, weapons of short reach and lashing retribution he cannot deny this flesh-grinding behemoth could pulp a large foe full of vitality- if the bite of its main blade weren’t enough to fell a target, the spikes to tear and bleed, weaken and debilitate.

The gleaming star is an unusual touch, and one that promises that it is not a destroyer by happenstance or tragedy, but by art. Forged for singular purpose. Gleaming and immaculate. In a word, ravenous.

If you had no other friends, cared for not how anyone saw you, this beast would be the only friend you needed- would reduce any other in your path to so much detritus to be cleared, shaken free with a single forceful stroke and the weapon itself, to hang from your shoulders, a companion that asks for nothing else.

He is, not that person-

-today. He weighs- fearlessness against collateral, emotions against caution, swift escape against brutal retribution.

He moves on.

Weaponmaster: Arioch-pattern Power Claw

“It…” Dunstan read over the file carefully for several minutes, “It is a Titan’s Power Claw,” he inhaled slightly before continuing, “The difference between a Power Claw and a Power Fist is that the Power Claw requires more penetrative power because it lacks the brute force that a Power Fist puts out. So… eh, I guess?” 

Dunstan shrugged as he set his datapad down on the nearby table, “Look, I’m not a Tehcpriest, and I’m not a Princeps, so Titan-grade weaponry really doesn’t interest me. Now if you wanted to talk to me about a Nova Cannon, or a Power Ram; that’d be a different story.”
