A dive bar in the middle of nowhere seemed like a good place to lay low for the night. Only a few cars were parking in the back, and the next bigger city was a good twenty miles away. The Rooms vacancy sign had been the one thing luring her in really, and after a day of non-stop driving, Liv longed for nothing more than a drink and a halfway decent bed to get a couple more hours before getting back o the road. Being on the run was no fun, but she needed to stop for the night, refuel her tanks. The jukebox was blaring some classic rock song Liv could dig, and she enjoyed her cheap bourbon at the bar when two men approached her from behind and flanked her on both sides, uncomfortably close.
“I have my drink, so I gotta refuse your offer. Sorry, guys,” she waved them off with a tired but still convincing smile, the key to her room for the night resting between her fingers. The men did not stop their harassing however, up to a point she felt only felt safe when escaping to her room. Liv put a bill on the counter and nodded at the bartender who followed her exit with a worried mien, and she was out the bar not a moment later.
As expected, the men followed the brunette, and once again closed in on the gravelly parking space. “I told you I´m not interested in company,” she repeated a tad more impatiently, feeling her fingertips tingle. When one of them lunged at her, Liv´s hand shot up to send a fiery beam at his chest and the man ricocheted back and to the ground with a pained howl. “Told ya to leave me alone.” His companion stood frozen but both took to their heels only a few second later. Liv wiped her hand off her leather jacket, glad that was all it had taken to have them back off, when she noticed someone in the not so far distance. A man, and obviously, he had witnessed the whole scene. It was night and the parking lot only dimly lit, but she doubted he could conjure a sensible explanation for what he´d just seen.
“Whatcha lookin´ at, huh?”
