no one:
steam: hey do you want a trading card of the Hate monologue from I Have No Mouth and I Must Scream
The comic has just been updated to say Team Ajax instead of Team Vanguard, presumably to match the TFIndustries statue
giving Soldier depth
despite being the writer's favorite and one of the main characters, he's still firmly a "joke" character that isn't meant to have any internal life. fanfic tends to try and (I'm not going to say resolve, I think there's plenty of fic where Soldier is a Joke and you're not expected to take him as more than that) expand on that in one of two ways
soldier is smarter than he lets on, and is either faking or playing up his level of crazy to make people underestimate him
soldier is Unwell and not in a funny goof-goof-boner way, and the powers that be are actively taking advantage of his compromised mental state to further their own ends
I frankly have enjoyed both of these options at different times in different fics, though I'm more partial to #2. However! we don't actually need to go outside of canon to see that Jane has an inner world and isn't a crazy shouty man all the time (and no this isn't a post about how he's just a sweet bean who loves animals)
these two scenes stand out in particular. they show that soldier isn't All Violence All The Time and, especially in the second one, actually shows a sense of preservation. it shows a level of => considering consequences => changing tactics in order to avoid pain/grisly death (I am handing him a medal for passing the bare minimum fanfic character POV qualifications)
having a blorbo is like i want her to sufferrrrrr. i want to put her in my mouth like she's toy food that doesn't hurt when you put your teeth on it because it's that soft plastic and actually feels kinda good to squeeze down.
*stonefaced, staring straight at the camera* i think you should have an idea of what your story is going to be before you write it
