WECB ALUMNI SPOTLIGHT: AMANDA NICHOLS (1999)
YOG:
1999( actually December 1998).
What your job/show was
At one point I had three shows- I covered a mid day format show, a live music show and Topical Solution, where my roommate and I would pick a topic the week before and then bring a bunch of music to fit the topic. Some of those were games, like"Dead or Canadian?" or "Funny or not Funny Floating." The live show was a live mix workshop that I co-opted so I could interview people I wanted to hear. Keep in mind that the specialty shows were three hours long then, so most weeks, I was in the studio for 8 hours at least.
I was also at any given time the traffic director, promotions director, music director (for a summer) and general manager. Needless to say, I didn't graduate with any sort of honors!
Particular moment/funny anecdote when you worked at WECB
At one org fair one year, another DJ (TomO) was going around interviewing people about their clubs and one girl brought everything to a halt be declaring that Mother Theresa had just died. TomO quickly turned the attention back to me at the booth, but I didn't have time to cue up another song, so right after she said that, I played Iggy Pop's "Lust for life." I felt like the biggest jerk!
If you could be any fictional character, who would you choose?
Hmmm. Tough call, but I've always had a soft spot in my heart for TV's Frank from Mystery Science Theater 3000.
