Processing photos from a Sunday afternoon walk around Wedmore on the anniversary of the death of G.K. Chesterton (which I found out on Monday), I'd like to think I did him proud by sharing the beauty of traditionalism with the world of social media. I've not read an awful lot of his works, but he's pretty well known in the traditionalist world for his eloquent literary style employed so often in writing on topics related to human nature, and the importance of emphasizing the simple things that really matter. I had come across the village of Wedmore from articles of pretty towns and villages within striking distance of Bristol, and its wide variety of local business were a good bonus to be had. I must admit I was somewhat underwhelmed by comparison to prettier places like Wells, Bath, and Castle Comb, but I did rather like how newer developments were relatively simple affairs that at best preserved the character of the village, and at worst just receded into the background, rather than making bold statements that don't fit in. Also a surprise was that basically the whole village shuts down on Sundays, which in my view is not a bad thing. OK, it might not be something non-religious people buy into, given the clear religious origins of an entire non-working day, but on a basic level, shutting shop for a day gives all workers a chance to unwind and recharge their batteries (something we probably take for granted, those of us in the corporate world), as well as encouraging more people to spend some time appreciating the simple things that can be too easily forgotten in today's mad rush of a world. And just to cap it all, I had the equally pleasant surprise of hearing horse hooves, and as I got the camera ready, I discovered that it was a recreational cart. If that's not enjoying the simple things of life (in a sustainable manner as well), I don't know what is. https://www.instagram.com/p/Cezd0rFDevI/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=
