Blog no.14 9/10/23
Today is Tangaroa Whāriki Kiokio, high energy and time to make critical decisions. I do feel focused and ready to write, something I didn't feel in the headspace to do last week, despite my plan indicating that korekore is an excellent time to write and reflect. Last week, I mainly worked on my final video output, which may be a form of writing through the narrative structure of the video. I created a storyboard and had to think about articulating my project to a general audience, which might help me with report writing. I think this shows how often I learn more in action rather than reflection, but I guess reflection on action (hi meta-cognition) is also essential. I do think I would lean more into my working style in the future. I won't try to make decisions and write about my process/ ideas until I've played around with them enough to tease out the narrative and any gaps. I need to see the whole picture to understand and explain small details.

As seen above, my storyboard had few iterations in the form shown, but previous exploration informed my ideas and direction.

This process speaks to the value of 'throwaway' experiments or 'playing around'. The outputs from these exercises are often not used directly. Still, the unconstrained and fluid way I 'play' with form and colour helps me synthesise disparate concepts, precedents and feelings into the visual medium. The design style I gravitate towards is process-motivated design, the method I have utilised in the execution of my workshops.
