Bionic Reading

i came across this while doing some research on dyslexia. 

Bionic reading is a technique that uses technology to assist people with reading difficulties, including those with dyslexia. The idea behind bionic reading is to provide readers with a range of tools and strategies to help them improve their reading comprehension and overcome challenges such as visual stress and difficulty with decoding words. 

I thought this was very interesting and I may consider this method of reading and implement it into my designs. 

I was having a look through their website and I came across some reviews. this review stood out too me because the person states that she was struggling with dyslexia and that bionic reading actually helped her to read faster. which is a good sign that this method of reading works on people with dyslexia. 

Reviews from their website that bionic reading works. but this is on their website so these reviews could be fake. but the bionic reading method actually works though in my opiuon

Lets forget about the stimatizim behind Comic Sans and learn to embrace and love it for what it truly is!!

Exploring fonts that are easy to read for Dyslexic people.

Open Dyslexic Font 

^ this type face is called Open Dyslexic which has its letters have a heavier bottom, used to show which way is supposed to be bottom. this is to prevent confusion when reading. the designer of the font sates on the web page that it was designed to help people with dyslexia read better and that the font is continually being updated and improved based off on the input from other dyslexic users. 

while reading through the webpage. they use the font for their text. and with me being having struggles with reading I find that this typeface actually works and that i find that reading in the Open Dyslexic is actually legit. 

The basic Arial Font 

This font is a San serif font that has been shown to be easier to read for people with dyslexia due to its clear and distinct letter shapes.

The letters in Arial have a consistent and uniform design, with no variations in thickness or letter shapes. This can help prevent confusion between similar-looking letters, such as "b" and "d," which can be a common problem for people with dyslexia. the font has a relatively wide spacing between letters, which can help prevent letters from appearing too close together and "crowded" on the page.

Arial wouldn't be a font that i would use in my project because it looks just like any other san serif font out there. i don't find this font that very unique or different. 

Now lets talk about my boy Comic Sans!!

lets talk about why comic sans is easy to read and how its beneficial for people with dyslexia. 

The simple and consistent design of Comic Sans can make it easier for people with dyslexia to distinguish between different letters and words. Comic Sans is often used at a larger size than other fonts, which can make it easier for people with dyslexia to read. now talking about familiarity, Comic Sans is a widely recognized and commonly used font, which can make it more comfortable and familiar for people with dyslexia to read.

lets stop the hate for Comic Sans and put a Stop to its Stigmatism!!

Nothing Comic about Dyslexia

Man i love this campaign!!

Dyslexia Scotland is a small organization based in Scotland that has come up with this amazing campaign which gives Comic sans a voice in todays Design World. Nothing Comic about Dyslexia is a Campaign that shines light on the most hated font on this plant Comic Sans!! they state that designers today have forgotten one of the most important things in design. which is to make design readable and understanding for everyone. they state that the todays design industry fails to help 780 million dyslexic people around the world to read better. which i found to be a great point. the research that they have done says that Comic Sans actual aids people with dyslexia read better. which is why their mission is to give Comic sans a voice and to use it as a means to help people with dyslexia to read better.

Nothing Comic about Dyslexia aim is to stop the hate on Comic Sans and to let designers actually use Comic sans as an inspiration to design typefaces that are Dyslexia friendly. so basically their main goal is to influence designers to be more dyslexia inclusive. 

I define great design to be readable and understandable for any type of audience and this campaign aims to do so by using Comic sans as a way to help Dyslexic people read better. which is why i find this campaign inspiring and significant as it tries to get designers work with a type face that no one likes.

Task 3 SDL

I find that Dyslexia is an important topic to bring awareness too because Dyslexia can have significant negative impacts on an individual's academic and social life if left untreated. It can cause difficulties in reading, writing, spelling, and sometimes math. Individuals with dyslexia may also struggle with processing and remembering information, which can affect their ability to learn and retain new knowledge. i myself have a struggle with reading and writing that's why I find this topic important and worth doing this project on.

Positionality Wheel activity

we were tasked to sit at a new table consisting of 5 people we haven't met before. they we had to randomly select a topic from the wheel and talk about the topic for at least 5 minutes. We were then task to find links between each persons stories or experiences. 

Fiona then came a long and drew us this map drawing links between education and gender. 

these are the notes that the our table group were taking when we were listening to each others backstories and experiences. 

reflection on activity:

I found this activity to be engaging and interesting. it was nice hearing where everyone was from and fun to try and draw links or relate to one others stories. its a great opportunity to make connections with people and get to understand some of their backstories. I find it fascinating getting to know where people came from and how they were raised.

Task 2 Mind Map SDL

this was the sheet that was given to us to do as an SDL. the idea of this map is to get us think about the tpoic we want to look into this semester. 

my hand writing is really hard to read for others so i will specify what i have have wriiten or some of what i wrote. 

box 1: personal values.

Respect: i wrote that respect is an important value i have because it promotes postive relationships, fosters team work, enhances communication and supports diversity and inclustion. resepect is a important value of mine because it contributes to personal growth.

Discpline: displince is imporant to me beacuse it can help you achieve goals and master self control. i find that men these days somwhat lack sexual control and find themselves watch porn and masturbating which i find pathetic and weak as this isnt something a man should be doing. thats why i think that displince and self control is something that i value the most. 

Communication: communication for me is importnat becuase it is key to healthy realtionships. without communication there can be a lot of misunderstanding and misinterpritation which can lead to conflics and mis communication. 

box 2: Race 

Tagalog: i do not speak tagalog but i do understand it. i want to learn the language and learn more about my culture. i was born in philipines in Manilla with my twin but then moved here to New Zealand six months after. so i was mainly raised here. 

Box 3: Disablities 

Short sighted: i am short sighted so i can see up close but cant see things from a far. i wera contacts when i go out but my glasses when i am at home. 

Box 4: My Creative Practice

Screen Printing: screen printing is a way for me pass the time at uni. i like to screen print up in level 7 sometimes during the break if i feel like coming onto campus. i screen print things from clothes to art and design. screen printing is a way for me to cope with stress sometimes after class. i find the procces quite fun and calming and really satsifying. i feel like screen printing is like an old way to design things and to make art becuase no a days design is manily digital and not realy analog so screen printn is one of those design procces i find unique and engaing.
