Headcanon A:  realistic

without realising it, he often thinks in negative space. as he sketches, he finds himself isolating shadows, rather than light - unconciously identifying what his eyes can't see. he considers studying architecture, or engineering, and rebuilding the west side into something shining and good that his parent's would be proud to return to. a rooftop that will catch the sunrise of a morning, windows looking to the water. if he grovels a little, damian will add tiny, scaled, illustrated residents to the future he wants to build. he puts himself, incandescently small and rendered in chicken scratch, square between those he loves.

Headcanon B: while it may not be realistic it is hilarious

looking at superman for the first time almost blinds him. starfire is even worse. getting introduced to superboy by tim was a little better, but only because he was already wearing sunglasses indoors. kon's bright smile just makes his eyes water. when he is close to them, it's like standing next to a lit fuse, pulsing with energy and just out of reach.

Headcanon C: heart-crushing and awful, but fun to inflict on friends

duke doesn't come out the other side of the war being scared of clowns. he keeps waiting to be, but he sees the joker's pale face, his ratcheting cackle, his pastel suit and bulging yellow eyes as pathetic, not terrifying. instead, one night at jay's, he's flicking through stations and ends up on reruns of full house. his mom loved comedies - living single, frasier, seinfeld, fresh prince, and black adder. it makes his heart hurt, and he settles in to watch when the first laugh track kicks in. terror. horror, disgust, roiling revulsion in his stomach as he hears it in his mind, laughing at everything, laughing at him, like his mother is sat before him again unknowing and hysterical and agonised. he shuts it off, hands clapped over his ears, trying to breathe. no one is there but him. even jay can't hear him cry.

Headcanon D: unrealistic, but I will disregard canon about it because I reject canon reality and substitute my own.

duke remembers jason todd's dildo dome phase. during dick's brief reign as the batman, he'd watched red hood misjudge the height of a fire escape and accidentally wedge his head in between the rungs on a tight angle. once duke realises it's the same person, he can't take him seriously. he thinks about jason's accidentally beaning himself trying to walk through a low doorway. he wonders if jason can still turn his head, or if he has to pivot his whole body like an owl when he's wearing the helmet. he considers the dome's practical uses as a headpiece, or as an exercise in fashion delusion. jason tries to intimidate him, once, and duke just says: "keep it in the bedroom, butt boy," and takes off before jason realises what's going on.

Mask walked down the halls, their movements unnatural and almost perfect... too perfect, as if they were trying to hard to act normal. Their was no falter in their steps, as if they were a robot, every step calculated and planned.

As they rounded the corner to return to their office, they stopped dead in their tracts, almost bumping right into RTV. They paused before craning their neck back and looking upwards, their gaze still as unhinged and unsettling as it always was as they looked at him. RTV was used to this look, and it didn't bother him, not anymore.

"Ah, Mask, I was looking for you, I know Colores had given YOU some work to do, but I ONLY need you for a moment. Come, walk and talk with me" He said, not waiting for Mask, knowing full well he'd be the one doing most of the talking. Mask followed without question, their eyes trained forward as they walked.

"I'll get right to the POINT Mask. I've noticed you've been taking ORDERS from more then just me and Colores. A favor here, request there. Normally I wouldn't MIND. And yet I've noticed..." He paused for a moment, still walking down the hall, never slowing down. "You never seem to say no... and well, so far it HASN'T been any issue, but, well, I do WORRY what might happen when someone outside these walls asks something of you..." RTV momentarily stopped, turning to face Mask, to also stopped walking, their gaze once again on him.

"I wouldn't want one of my STAR employees betraying me, now would I?" He said, a cocky smile plastered on his face, yet Mask didn't falter, they only stared. RTVs eye twitched slightly, he hate he couldn't read them, could never get a reaction, a twitch, a moment of the eyes, nothing. Perhaps he had to bring out the big guns.

"Listen, ill be bunt. I KNOW what you are." His voice was low, almost a harsh whisper as he leaned down. For a moment, he finally saw it, a flash in Masks eyes. Was it fear? Concern? Anger? Hard to say, but it was something. That shit eating grin was right back on his face as he saw it. "Finally have YOUR attention now do I? Good." RTV said, turning around and taking a few steps forward, stopping at a door to his left.

"I have no intention of letting your little secret slip, only I and a few TRUSTED other know. In fact, I think we can come to a little... AGREEMENT?" He said as he folded his hands behind him. He watched Mask stare at him, and for once, they broke eye contact, only to look over their shoulder, before looking right back at him.

"W h a t d o y o u w a n t ?"

RTV blinked in surprise. He rarely heard Mask speak, but even he knew that wasn't their voice. No... it sounded like a hundred voices talking over one another in a low tone... he wasn't talking to mask, he was talking to it. A part of him wondered if there ever was a Mask, if this thing was all that's left of them... or perhaps they were still in there... somewhere. But he didn't have time to ponder.

"Ah... so you DO speak. How quaint. But to be honest I dont want anything you dont already provide. All I ask, is you be loyal to ME. and ONLY me. You won't take any orders from anyone outside of these walls." He took a step forward, his gaze challenging theirs.

"You are to NEVER take any orders from an outsider, you dont do ANYTHING unless it comes from my say or from someone within this company, and even then, it's MY word over anyone else's. UNDERSTAND? You belong to ME." He stated, his voice strained as he stood right in front of Mask, looking down at them. He held their gaze until finally, for the first time. Mask broke eye contact to look down at the ground.

RTV had won.

He smiled triumphantly as he turned and returned to the door.

"Oh dont be so gloomy my dear, it wouldn't be much of a DEAL if I didn't offer something to you in return." He said as he rested his hand on the handle. Mask looked back up, taking a few hesitant steps forward. "I belive you'll ENJOY the gift I have to offer." He said as he swung the door open. Masks eyes went from RTV to the inside of the room. RTV sae their body tense as their eyes landed on a man in the center of the room, tied to a chair, his mouth and hands bound as he squirmed desperately trying to escape.

"I hope you don't mind, I tracked down your little... friend here... and he can be all yours... so long as you DON'T forget who you serve... understood?" He asked as he leaned against the door frame. Mask paused once more, but as they spoke, it wasn't just that thing...

"Understood..." their voice was barely above a whisper, perhaps there was more of Mask left in there after all. RTV waved his hand as he walked away.

"Then a deal is a deal, hes all yours, DO try and clean up when your done." He said as he strolled away. He didn't look back, he only heard the sound of the door shutting, then a thud, followed by a scream, cut off mere seconds after it left the man's lips. RTV smiled to himself, he would have to check the cameras in that room later, perhaps it would make an entertaining show for him later.

RTV was back in his office, and he normally was, he sat on at his desk, reading over some paperwork given to him, it wasn't glamorous work, but it still hand to be done none the less. His attention however was soon caught by a knock on the door. Something RTV had gotten good at over time was recognizing the knocks of most of his employees, the timing, the strength behind the knock, the number of times.

Masks was always distinctive, it was two quite knocks, about a second or so apart. He smiled as he heard the familiar noise. "Yes Mask, come in-" but when he looked up, his face dropped, so too did the pen in his hand as it landed on his desk. He stared, not in fear, but in disbelief at what he was seeing.

The man that was bound to that chair, the one he was sure would have been ripped to bloody pieces by now... he stood there in Puzzlvision uniform... and that look in his eye... oh... he knew that stare far to well. He paused for a long moment before he spoke.

"I see... so that's how it is... well, I GUESS I can't complain with more staff..." RTV muttered, but there was a hint of unease in his voice. "Do you have a name as well then?" He asked. Granted, he never really bothered to learn the man's name when he ordered for him to be dragged here, he figured he'd be dead at the end of the day anyways. Yet the man stood still, he... or rather it didn't speak. There was a long pause before RTV sighed.

"Well find, if you won't GIVE me a name ill just call you Antonio then." He said as he waved his hand dismissively, ans surprisingly, he nodded, as if acknowledging his new title. RTV blinked again, this thing was just full of surprises.

"Er... right... Antonio, I SUPPOSE you can join Mask working in the art department. I'll let Colores know you're on your way, she'll tell you what to do. Im sure YOU already know your way." As he finished his sentence, Antonio nodded, and he soon left.

RTV sat their dumbfounded for a moment. Did that... really happen? He sat there, before a grin crept om his face. Oh... oh yes that did just happen. Hm... he could use this to his advantage. He let out a dark chuckle as he spun his chair to the side, grabbing out a knife from the draw of his desk, and throwing it at the wall. The knife embedding itself in a photograph on a dart board, a photo of that pesky Rat and that obnoxious SMG4.

"Things are about to get interesting..."
