21 Aug. 2025 - The Weird Chickens are Dissolving
I was quite annoyed to wake up around 11:30 PM on the 20th. I first registered that I needed to use the washroom, and made my way there on legs with knees that felt like hinges in desperate need of adjustment. Somewhere along the way I became aware of the thunder. Back in bed, I could see the lightning flashing through my eyelids, but mostly I was concerned with getting on with my rest. It wasn't until the morning commute, when the local DJs mentioned it, that I realised everyone in town woke up at 11:30 PM on the 20th of August, because of the violence of the storm.
The morning was stained by the violence. It lingered, the wind sometimes warm and heavy with the threat of rain, sometime cold like it is before a thunderstorm. Sometimes, there was no wind at all, and an eery silence would fall. The clouds spread their stippled mantles low over the land, but like fitted sheets, they'd sometimes spring back, rolling over on themselves into hight, peeks, dangerous blue from their thickness. The anticipation for a minor disaster hung heavy over us until well after lunch, and the weird chickens could feel it.
There are fourteen males under my care- they're more colourful than the hens, just like most species of weird chicken, and we don't want to breed, so our lovely ladies were moved to another facility just a few years ago. The general public mostly admires their plumage and their loud cries for attention, but I like their shape best. They look huggable. Their necks taper into a perfectly boat-shaped bodies, like a high-fantasy longship, their tails are held carefully parallel with the ground, and their legs are strong, with great, stompy feet. Their plumage only covers their upper legs, so they appear to be wearing very dignified, dark-coloured pantaloons, and everything below them is carefully speckled with heavy scales. They are very polite, with me, and silly in nature. I love my weird chickens.
I love their fortitude as well. Many other animals I know will run screaming into the barn the moment a speck of rain wets their pretty snoots. Not the weird chickens. They will politely assume safe positions, as each gentleman defines it. Some go high, in case of flash flood (very practical). Some find cozy ledges to tuck themselves underneath. Others ignore the rain and go about their business, however, even these bravest of fowl ducked and covered on the 21st.
I assume they were kept awake by the storm the night before. All day on the 21st, the field was dotted with weird chicken puddles, their bellies pressed flat to the ground, landing gear stowed safely away, and wings held slightly loose, spreading out restfully. Their heads were tucked right to their backs, their tails spread somewhat, so they looked like little hovels in the earth, less like boats and more like tiny fairy forts. For such brilliant birds, their camouflage is impressive.
What in the world is this? It’s a type of chicken known as a Silver Laced Polish. Bizarre and beautiful, yes?

Ho visto un gallo necrofilo abusare sessualmente più volte del misero cadavere di una gallina prematuramente scomparsa probabilmente a causa del caldo torrido.
Polish chicks are beautiful !

Silkie Chickens Are Fricking Adorable
Sometimes spelled "Silky," these chickens are named after their fluffy, silk-like plumage. In addition to their puffy plumage, the breed has several other strange qualities, such as black skin and bones, blue earlobes, and five toes on each foot, contrary to most breeds that only have four. They are very docile and playful, with a calm and friendly temperament, making them perfect for pets.
