Jinmao Astrology for Weirdstick’s The Vicious Vow:
so i created these charts partially on astrological mapping of these dates but also my interpretation of their personalities, behavior, motivations, and actions. my observations are my own and i am not a professional astrologer, though my mother raised me with astrology and tarot as huge pillars of my family’s belief system. i was read my horoscope every week instead of going to mass with my catholic family members, lol. so this is basically 20+ years of observation of how differently astrological placements, their patterns, and how they express themselves. i did not do their houses, but i can in the future! several of these placements are my own, my partner’s, or friends or family members, so i believe they are fairly accurate! but i say this all to basically warn that i am not infallible, may have projected, and just wanted to have some fun :)
Ka Jun: August 1, 1999
Leo Sun - externally confident, but identity revolves around being charismatic and desirable, making leo suns feel insecure about their inner value. warm souls, generally optimistic, energetic, motivated by their fire element to get things done, hard workers. strongly held beliefs. never been wrong a day in my life, don’t correct me, but if you can teach me something new, I'll respect you. fixed in many ways, hard to change, but not unwilling. (see: jinshi’s reputation in the inner court, his insecurities, and his ability to work hard). leo is ruled by the sun, and so leo sun’s shine brightly and genuinely as the placement is exalted. looks like sunshine, is sunshine. opposite sign to aquarius.
Pisces Moon - little emotional barriers. extremely open emotionally and tends to have some psychic ability (typical of water placements). pisces is symbolized by two fish; no shell like the crabby cancer of scorpion scorpio. often has a dual nature; can be very soft-hearted, sweet, and earnest, but also can be emotionally manipulative, suffocating, and like a fish, can slip right out of your fingers. pisces placements often have spiritual journeys--jinshi was deeply involved in rituals, and jun is haunted/possessed by jinshi. emotions can drown a pisces moon, often sweeping them away with the strength of their emotional current. pisces is mutable water; they are constantly changing, shifting, evolving. pisces as the last sign in the zodiac has the wisdom of the rest of the zodiac at its fingertips, if it learns how to access it. opposite sign to virgo.
Capricorn or Taurus Rising - here is where i’m conflicted. up to weirdstick to decide!
capricorn risings are ruled by saturn, which is the planet of trials and tribulations, hard life lessons learned young, and often are thrust into positions where they have high expectations and responsibilities young. this works for jinshi and jun, being the heirs of their respective family’s dynasties. capricorn risings often are hard-working, diligent, calculating, methodical, and love to test the boundaries of themselves and others. can be judgemental of others who are not as methodical as they are; can sometimes come off as dismissive or cold. capricorn is the patriarch and father of the zodiac, and is ruled by time. usually hard childhoods with much easier lives later in life due to learning the hard lessons of reality. very wise. bit of benjamin buttons, more relaxed later in life. capricorn is cardinal earth; they come up with practical ideas and are good at getting them done through their competency or delegation. loves a luxury legacy brand, like hérmes. opposite sign to cancer.
i like the idea of taurus rising, fixed earth, because then j would be ruled by venus instead of saturn, and he’s our resident pretty boy and it just makes sense. taurus is reserved, sensual. grounded, but deeply desires control of themselves--and others. very stubborn, not easily moved to do what they do not wish. love of luxury, whether it’s food, textiles, drink, etc. tendency to indulge, but have a refined manner about them. very practical in their fancy when well balanced. slow-moving, patient, and secure in their capabilities. calm presence and disposition, good poker face. could be a hoarder, as they love shiny, new things--physical representations of what they love that cannot be taken from them (jinshi’s toys always being taken from him). often have deep senses of duty towards others and do not take kindly to someone who shirks their responsibilities. also very private--because why would they share their feelings with you? definition of “if they wanted to they would.” devoted, loyal, and steady. may like luxury legacy brands like capricorn, but doesn’t need them to appear polished, elegant, and beautiful (they’re born with it). opposite sign to scorpio.
Cancer Mercury - cardinal water. secretive. emotional communicator; hard to keep emotions in check when communicating matters of the heart (of which there are many). passionate. emotionally manipulative, but also emotionally intelligent. usually very warm, considerate, and caring, but can become cold with a change of the tides. moody--can lash out and grab you with their crabby pinchers. communicates from a need to be secure and safe, and therefore is private and not quick to disclose true feelings. very intuitive, can understand where other’s come from easily and empathize. the friend who takes 4 months to update you on something turbulent that happened to them. evidence: jinshi is a pouty brat, incredibly private, and speaks from his heart. opposite sign to capricorn.
Virgo Venus - mutable earth. venus is in fall here, so it is not comfortable. analytical in love and romance. not one to settle due to their critical nature--of themselves and others. picky, likely to choose someone whom they admire intellectually. expectations are in the heavens. attentive, nurturing, and caring lover. the kind to notice all your idiosyncrasies and set up systems, quietly, for their lover to have the best life possible. very practical in terms of gift giving and showing affection; can be affectionate but not likely comfortable in PDA. able to see the best in their partner, which can cause them to nag if their partner is not living up to their expectations, because they know they can do better. opposite sign to pisces. with a pisces moon, j might have conflicts in expressing his emotions in a partnership, but where there is opposition, there is also similarities. the two placements can complement each other with intentional nurturing. not flashy taste, very practical, the type to like a basic top but it has to be the right textiles and from an ethical brand.
Scorpio Mars - fixed water. passionate, strong-willed, scorpio’s traditional ruler used to be mars before pluto, so mars is happy in scorpio. ferocious warrior spirit. nasty in a fight, will fight dirty, because they are not likely to strike until they can go scorched earth. slow to anger but hard to let it go. anger can be like a tsunami; combined with the cancer mercury, he wishes to drown his opponents. might like to guilt-trip with the show of his emotional intensity--”look at what you’ve done to me!” type shit. could follow someone who walks away, because they’re not done with you! very aggressive. very direct when they pursue someone they are attracted to; intense sexual energy & presence. people are very attracted to this placement, finding them mysterious and captivating. there’s a misconception that scorpio placements, especially scorpio mars = lots of sex. not true! they are very private and discerning, moving in directions that truly call to them. they are constantly looking for a soul connection, so sex is very important to them regardless of if it is casual or not. still, regardless of whether or not they pursue sexual relationships, they can have a high sex drive and use sex as a form of deepening connections. likely wants a partner who will disclose their vulnerabilities openly and willingly, but once scorpios are obsessed and possessive of someone, they will latch on regardless of their partner’s willingness/submission to bend to their plutonic will. scorpio and pluto rules the shadows, taboos and darkness. jinshi being a victim of sexual harrassment knows the darkness of sexual power. opposite sign to taurus.
Kan Meilin: January 21 2000
Aquarius Sun - fixed air. the inventor, the scientist, oddball. ruled by uranus, very unpredictable. aquarius sun’s appear to be detached to the world around them, but as the water bearer’s, they hold and witness humanity around them as guardians. can often feel outside of society, never quite fitting in, resident alien status. because they approach connection differently than others, they can appear to be unfeeling or dismissive, but they are largely caring individuals, if not naturally warm or nurturing. they value freedom of mind, body, and expression. curious to a fault, but open-minded and genuinely accepting of people who live differently from them. abhor ignorance, but they can have a god-complex. they’ve never been wrong a day in their life but if you can prove them wrong they will respect you. stubborn due to their fixed nature, though they are unlikely to admit it even if called out as it does not resonate with their self-image. not a fan of authority; their traditional ruler was saturn alongside capricorn, so rules tend to feel heavier than average if they do not agree with the logic. they push societal boundaries by being rebellious and forward-thinking. friendship-oriented, they value community and friendship as they often feel alone in the world. very independent and loyal. opposite sign to leo.
Cancer Moon - cardinal water. deeply emotional, deeply private. despite being strongly ruled by their emotions, they are intensely private and do not share them lightly or easily. self-protective, their crab shell and claws project an outward coldness/defense to all those who wish to get close to them. does not appreciate prying or emotional manipulation from others, but will use it against another. never met a cancer moon without a mother wound; cancer is the matriarch & mother of the zodiac, and oftentimes with cancer in the moon/emotional sphere, the mother had a huge role on their emotional state, usually leading to a complex, turbulent, or resentful relationship, whether they are enmeshed or estranged. fengxian, having wounded maomao emotionally and physically, created the shell/barriers maomao has. for meilin, who appears to have not been raised with her mother or her mother is a complex figure for her (as of chapter 17), likely was taught young that emotional closeness is a risk to personal safety and security, much like maomao who cried until she learned not to. cancerian moons are naturally very nurturing despite this, and long to take care of others the way they were not. protective of themselves and those they care about, and likely once they form attachments, they are hellbent on letting go. when upset, could feel like they are drowning in their emotions, and may lash out to protect themselves, or shut down as a defense mechanism against the strength of their own emotions. cancer is ruled by the moon, which is not a planet (obviously) but is similar to the sun in astrology--cancer is at home in the moon, same as leo is at home in the sun. cancer is analytical, emotionally intelligent, but can fall prey to any narrative distortions due to the strength of their emotional intuition telling them something. i.e, past traumas and patterns repeat, creating a fear response. opposite sign to capricorn.
Scorpio Rising - fixed water. powerful placement, the chart is ruled by pluto. tendency to be consumed by the shadows of the world: taboos, injustice, cruelty. they cannot, and will not, in fact they abjectly refuse to look away from the darkness in the world. they learn the underbelly of the world young, and once felt alone in it, so they will never let anyone else walk it alone if they can help it. transformative energy and influential enough to wield their power; people are drawn to scorpio placements, as they hold depths and wisdom most do not have, as scorpio placements are unafraid of walking the paths that lead to acquiring that knowledge. fierce disposition, regardless of smiling or deadpan, their eyes are intense, piercing. they are willful and stubborn, but curious, and with the tenacity to follow strange paths alone. attracted to what they do not understand, and what they know might be scary. i once commented in one of the viscous vow’s chapters, that i believe some of us seek out darkness in others because we wish for our own darkness to be seen and loved--this is likely a perspective i have since i have many scorpio placements (in fact, i have the two that i’ve given jinamo). they desire to be in control, and typically have the power to do so, whether it is mentally, emotionally, or physically. their presence is intimidating to many. there is warmth to be found at the heart of their depths, you just have to be allowed in to receive it as they are private to the point of being withholding. despite this, they want to learn all of your secrets. sometimes scorpio wants to know your secrets to obtain power over you, as a way to feel safe themselves, and sometimes they just want to hoard souls like a dragon. opposite sign to taurus.
Sagittarius Mercury - mutable fire. passionate and loud about their special interests. academics at heart, they have a love and appreciation for education and knowledge, and tend to specialize despite their diverse interests. could have been the teacher’s pet but their rambunctious, impulsive nature can lead to an exhausted mentor (love and light to luomen, i know she scared that man when maomao started to experiment on herself). will debate you and gloat when you lose! intellectual terrorist, ruthless in their pursuit of knowledge and wish to disseminate their findings widely. low tolerance for the sin of ignorance, which compounds with the aquarius sun to make a truly scary combination. has a bit of a fiery temper, easily irritable, though anger is usually quick to dissipate…though they do leave burn marks. (i’m thinking of maomao slapping tf out of lady lihua’s lady in waiting. icon) brutally honest, emphasis on brutal, because they value the truth more than your emotions. very perceptive, intelligent. ruled by jupiter, sagittarius mercury tend to have abundance and luck when it comes to their passions--whether that’s maomao having luomen raise her, or the rulers of Li fund and back her education as a physician, or meilin having the ka and kan family’s wanting to use her intelligence for their consulting…there are opportunities that basically pave themselves for a jupiter ruled placement. likely learns the most upon traveling, and has a desire to learn about other cultures and places. a real yearner to learn. hysterically funny, probably observational humor. perhaps not easily amused themselves, with a particular sense of humor. opposite sign to gemini.
Venus Capricorn - cardinal earth. venus is in detriment in capricorn, meaning romance and love is not easy. similar to virgo venus, as they are both earth venuses, meaning they are analytical, practical, picky, and attentive in love. capricorn venus have expensive taste, they value and love quality, something hand-made with a story. while they hate imperfections, they will likely enjoy a wabi sabi clay pot they found in a hole in the wall they found one day while they were taking their scheduled brooding walk. slow to love, slower to move on. not one for outward displays of affection, preferring acts of service in private. devoted and traditional in love, but critical and prone to disappointment. might be harsh in themselves, insecure in their beauty or their ability to please their partner, as they are not naturally inclined to express affection and love. the type of lover to always catch you when you fall, unless you try to do a trust fall, then they’ll let you fall and laugh at you. very nurturing and giving, but afraid of being taken advantage of. loves deeply, and needs a partner who can appreciate and trust that, despite the outward lack of affection. opposite sign to cancer.
Aquarius Mars - fixed air. combined with her aquarius sun, there is harmony in how she identifies and how she operates as a fighter and lover. not one to argue, the air element makes her quite avoidant of conflict. likely to crack a joke to diffuse tension. tendency to stonewall or leave the room if someone is upset with her and they express emotional volatility; not comfortable arguing, as she can have a sharp tongue, and would the sagittarius mercury, does not wish to lash out like she knows she is capable of doing. cold in an argument, and likely to dismantle their opponent with logic and facts. they believe it is illogical and ineffective to true communication to argue from a point of anger, and so if they are angered, they are likely to choose seclusion until they can communicate calmly. experimental lover, down to try most things if not everything, with a high sex drive. could be polyamorous or enjoy open/casual sexual relationships, as they can separate sex from their emotions. pursues a romantic or sexual interest by learning all of their data points (hello meilin’s raid) to be perceived as the best choice available, but not one to chase. could play hard to get, but don’t play that game with them--they will assume you are not interested and move on quickly. opposite to leo.
additional observations:
jinmao and jun/meilin’s are 100% a case of opposite’s attract. as i always say, in opposition there are complementary aspects as well. leo and aquarius both think highly of themselves in many ways, are competent in their roles, but also can feel alone or insecure. leo is able to break through aquarius’s largely self-imposed distance through sheer willpower, and aquarius observes leo behind the blinding rays of the sun where they can truly be seen. they are naturally inclined to be curious of each other, of each other’s motives, and when they learn each other they understand each other, even if they disagree. they both have awkward earth venuses, so they are clumsy in love together, approaching love not with romance but several other agendas. cancer mercury and sag mercury do not naturally mesh, as cancer will avoid explaining their truth and sagittarius has no patient for anything but the truth. j/m miscommunicate all the time, and it is their biggest hurdle--they can be completely seen, heard, understood, and loved, but they need to communicate their way there first! they both have water moons here, and i like that they are both deep feelers who express that so differently. there is a respect for each other’s emotional depths, though they might be hard-pressed to show them. both are deeply private. scorpio and aquarius are deeply fascinated by each other--also deeply private, curious, and stubborn. their fixed natures align well, as long as they are on the same team with the same objective. fierce adversaries they could be, should the tides take them there. i’m firm in meilin’s scorpio ascendant/rising, but jun’s rising is still a source of conflict for me. i like the idea of the taurus rising as an opposition to meilin’s scorpio rising--they truly approach the world differently, but seek the same thing: control. however, capricorn also seeks control, and has the traditional, patriarchal, karmically tortured aspect that i think jun embodies.
