They can stand upright completely on they own! I did glue one of the braces on kind of crooked and it's kind of wobbly, so be careful while you're doing that.
Honestly, they're not very easy to walk in. Make sure the braces aren't too long so you can manage them while walking. Really you shouldn't be putting much weight on the braces at all, so practice walking on tip-toes!
Mine isn't the only way, of course. Keep looking around to find the method that's most comfortable, affordable, and doable for you. I took the cheap way honestly, and this was my first time tackling a project like this so I made a few mistakes. But if you have any more questions, I would be willing to help you out. :)
