Blueberry Cheesecake
Elyon held the five year old and carefully placed him on the surfboard."Okay Jerry. Remember what I told you?" she asked."Yup!." said the scrawny kid as he positioned himselfon the surfboard.Then he squealed as he popped up and tried to balancehimself.The other kids cheered in delight as Jerry waved his handsat them."Nice job Jerry!!!" called Wan from the shore.The rest of the people in the beach also applauded.Gas then elbowed Max at the side and whispered to him."Wow, she’s a natural with kids, isn’t she?" he teased.Max glared at Gas as Gas laughed loudly.Max then turned to Elyon who was with Tom, Gabe, Geo and Wan at waters wading and taking turns in teaching a group of orphanshow to surf.Elyon looked back to see why Gas was laughing and metMax’s gaze instead. She smiled at him as Max turned pinkand turned away.Elyon sighed then shook her head. She cant understandwhy Max can be still mean to her no matter how friendly she is to him."Why did I even put up to this?" she thought to herself thenturned to the horizon.She recalled on their tutorials last week, Max invited herto accompany him to a charity event. Elyon could never say noto a charity so she said yes. The ‘charity event’ was actuallyan opening for Max’s dad’s newest beach resort.Mr. Warren had invited some orphans for the day and insisted that Max and some of his football friends attend and entertain theorphans so Hearst High will get some good press.Max invited his posse’, the 7 Giants of Hearst High.Max was the leader because he was the principal’s son.Then there’s Geo, Gas and Gabe or whom Elyon prefers tothink as the Rock, Vin Diesel and Terry Crews because they are like the high school versions of those celebrities.Then there’s Tom, Max’s best friend.Stan, the strong and silent type and Wan, who was more likelya genius who replaced Nishan and is on charge of gadgetsand the team’s playbook.Elyon actually thought that Max and his posse were actuallykind of nice if they weren’t bullying and stuff. She is on her guardthought because she expects that maybe they might prank herin front of the press any time.
Max on the other hand grumbled and turned to the sand.He hated how his posse would secretly tease him to Elyon.He remembered how he had hanged up the phone on Kara back then when she was asking for hus support duringa Shakespearean play. His gang told him to break up with Kara already if he wasn’thappy and then started popping random names of women fromHearst High whom he could date. But when Wan mentioned Elyon’s name, Max reacted uneasily instead of his usual smugness. So his gang challenged Max to "Make her wear the Hearst High Jacket". It would be amusingto see that the niece of the principal of their rival school will be wearing the Hearst High jacket during their upcoming football games if he could win her heart.
Then Gas stopped laughing as Mr. Warren approached the two.He turned to where the orphans and the press were thenraised his brows."Why is that woman here?" he asked and turned to his son.Gas then whistled and slowly walked away as Max faced his dad."You said I could bring anyone I want." Max said defiantly then smirked."How did you even.. know each other? Convince her to come here?Isn’t she from THAT school? Where’s your girlfriend, Kara?” asked Mr. Warrenwho was carefully observing Elyon.Mr. Warren thought that Elyon was like the splitting image of his former lover, Elisena Van Hausten except for their skincolor and hair color.Elyon had the same mannerisms as her aunt as well. The same grace, the same charms, the same bright smile.He regretted that he had hurt Elisena twice, first when theywere in high school and then when they dated again a year ago.But he made another mistake and this time Elisena’s sistersretaliated by building a school to rivals his.
"Kara’s not good with kids." reasoned Max.He was grinning deep inside though because he managed to pisshis dad off. Max hates it when his dad forces him to do charity workfor the presses. Mia somehow managed to slide away from this one somehow." I’ll just ask the photographers to not include her in the pictures. Her motherand her aunts will not let this rest if they found out that she was here somehow.You know how they are! Those pesky Van Hausten Sirens! ” he said coldly as he caught his sonunconsciously gazing and at the bronze haired beauty.He placed his hand on his shoulders and glared at his son."Stay away from the Siren! Do you understand me?"he whispered firmly to his son then promptly walked away.Max just folded his arms then shook his head.Mr. Warren called for the press and the orphans for the dinner buffet at the resort’s restaurant, leaving Elyon and the 7 giantsat the beach.Max joined the others and saw that Stan and Elyon werechallenging each other to some sort of surfing competition.The two then grabbed their surfboard and started paddling towards the waters and into a big wave.The two trying to outdo each other at the waveas Geo and Gas cheered for Stan while Wan, and Tomcheered for Elyon. He saw Stan winking at Elyon while performing an intricate surf stunt. Elyon then giggled and clapped her handsduring the stunt."Aw… aren’t the two sweet?" chided Gabe to Max.Max felt angry all of a sudden.Max then grabbed a surfboard from Gas and started paddlingtowards the water as well."Wait Max!" said Tom as a large wave started building up.Elyon stopped and watched as she saw Max heading towards a real big wave." Does he even know how to—?" asked Elyon to Stanwhen she saw the huge wave knocking Max off his board and into the water.Elyon screamed as she saw Max swim up for air.Before Max could even return to his surfboard another wave followedand splashed at him. This time knocking his head to the surfboard rendering him conscious.Elyon pointed to Stan on what she saw but Stan just laughed and scoffed it off."He’s just playing around." he grinned but Elyon shook her head and insistedthat she saw Max hit his head. She stood up from her boardand frantically waved at Tom, signalling that something was wrong.Tom quickly understood and told the rest so the boys started to franticallyhead to a speedboat and into the waters.Elyon glared at Stan then dived off from her board and into waters.She saw the unconsious Max slowly sinking down.She quickly swam towards him, took his arm into her shoulder and swam up."Tom! Over here!" she screamed as she broke to the surface before another wave toppledon top of them.Elyon braced herself and hanged on to Max as strong as she could.She threaded with all her might to stay afloat.Finally she felt a couple of strong arms pull her and Max out.Not long they were finally boarded in a speedboat. Max was carefully sprawled on the speedboat’s floor and Gabe was performing CPR. Geo grabbed a first aid kit andWan carefully treated the wound in Max’s forehead."Will he be okay?" asked Elyon to Tom.Elyon then stared at Max.He was lying there, bleeding and not moving.What the hell was he thinking? Why did he just went to face the wave like that? "Come on Max…" whispered Gas.Elyon felt like a cold bucket of water had hit her back."Is… he?" she gasped as she felt her vision go blurry.She felt like she was losing her hearing and her vision.She felt her heart pounded."It can’t be…" she continued in disbelief.She felt tears streaming from her face.That jerk! That jerk! He thinks he can do anything.He thinks he’s better than anyone else.Images of the time they spent together just flashed in her eyes.When they met the first time.Their first kiss in London.Meeting again as enemies when Van Hausten Academy started.The constant rivalries of their school.The day when Max became his charge and she as his tutor.The quiet times of them studying together.
"I think he needs mouth to mouth!" screamed the Korean whilesnapping Elyon from her flashback.The guys then started looking at each other uneasily.Elyon wasted no time and quickly knelt on the floor,pinched Max’s nose, opened his mouth and gave him air.The rest of the men in the boat either gasped or gaped inexcitement.Elyon ignored them though. She only had one thought in mind.Don’t do this to us, you jerk!After a few breathes, Max suddenly shook and coughed up water.The rest cheered and sighed in relief.Max opened his eyes and was surprised to see the red hairedbeauty kneeling on top of him.Her sea green eyes were holding back tears and her handwas gently brushing his flaxen hair."You’re okay." she blurted softly then suddenly buried her face in his chest and started to cry.Max took a few deep breathes and started to realize what just happened. He almost drowned and the lovely redhaired had saved his life!And now she was on top of him, crying out of relief that he was okay.Never in a million years would he ever thought that the “enemy”would have done that for him.He was overwhelmed. He gently stroked her hair and wasabout to embrace her when she pulled away and stood up."Don’t scare us again like that." said Wan.The rest of the boys continued to cheer as Tom helped Max up. "Let’s go get dinner!" said Gas as he revved up the speedboatand they returned to shore.
Elyon was just done changing into dry clothes when she heardWan calling for her. She chose to wear a colorful sarong that wrappedaround her neck, draping her bikini.She wrapped her beach outift off with a fresh flower she picked offsomewhere and tucked it on her ear.She got out of the dressing room and followed Wan because it was time for dinner.Wan told her that they wouldn’t be joining the orphans for the dinner buffet.Elyon was confused as Wan lead him near the shore.To her surprise, she saw a table decked with the most scrumptious food and pillows as their seats. It was also surrounded by torches and candles.The food looked and smelled delicious."We get to eat here and see the sun set?" said Elyon excitedly."Um.. well you get to eat here…" started Wan as Max approachedthe two. Max beamed as he thought that Elyon was beautifuland exotic in her sarong."I wanted to say thank you for what you did a while ago, so I hope this dinner would suffice.” he said as he took Elyon’shand and lead her to the table."Wow! It’s beautiful!" said Elyon as she took her seat.The two started to dine and laugh. Elyon enjoyed the dinner but was nervous at the same time.She felt guilty and embarassed at herself each time she looked at Max and thought that he was dashing althroughout the meal.Finally they were on to dessert, a blueberry cheesecake. The same time the sun started todip below the horizon. Elyon gazed at sunset dreamily asshe felt Max inched closer to her seat.She asked him where the others were and if they had eaten.Max said they were fine, he just wanted the dinner to be specialand to thank her personally because she was very brave.Maybe it was because of how the sunset glowed perfectlyon Elyon as she smiled, Or how Max kept thinking the imageof Elyon that he saw when he had opened his eyes after he almostdrowned, either way, Max couldn’t help himself as he inchedin and kissed Elyon. Max half expected that Elyon would retaliatewith a barrage of slaps but instead Elyon kissed him back as passionately as he did. He felt her arms had boldly crept around his neck and she pulled him closer to her.Max felt like letting go of everything and get lost in the moment.He thought on how different things may have turned out if his dad and aunt’s break up didn’t end as bitterly as it did.He regretted at how he didn’t fight for her back when hisfather first forbade him against the Sirens.He also felt bad at all the trouble he had caused her andher school. He admired at how friendly and gracious she was at keeping their tutorials a secret from everyone else.To think she even managed to keep it a secret from the masterof all secrets, her ex-boyfriend, Wes. Max felt flooded in angeras he thought of that sly and spiky haired schemer.He still couldn’t believe how that ‘peasant’ managed to win Elyon’s heart back then. Max finally admitted to himselfthat he felt a twinge of jealousy each time he saw her in Wes’ arms back then. And how dare that schemer just broke up with her like that? Rumor has it that the cause was Elyon’seldest brother. But to hell with that, what mattered to Maxwas now and this moment that he had with her. It felt likethe two were lost in a different plane and time. A havenjust for the two of them. A moment to make up for all the
what if’s that were stolen from them.
No school rivalries.
No family feuds.
No pranks from his football posse.
Not Wes or Kara.
Just him and her.
Then all of a sudden Elyon pushed Max away and stood up."What have I done?" she gasped as she frantically picked upher sarong. "This is wrong! This is wrong! You still have Kara!" she panickedwhile still trying to catch her breath.Max was still breathless and unable to move. Reality was still dawning in to himespecially when she mentioned Kara’s name."I’m sorry I allowed this to happen." she said tearfullyand quickly stepped away.Max managed to grab her arm though."Please calm down. Let’s talk about this. Things aren’tgoing well between Kara and I lately… and I.” he stammeredas he was racing to find the right words to say.What should he say? What could he do to make her stay?To convince her that it was her all along whom he hadalways wanted to be with?That things between Kara and him had been uneasy.And that now that Elyon was no longer with Wes, maybe this was it. This was a chance given to themto make up for what they failed before.But before he could say anything Elyon slipped from hisgrasp. She smiled at him but shook her head and declared"This was wonderful…but this is wrong. I’m sorry but I just can’t hurt Kara like this. And I don’t think I’m ready..not after Wes..” she said when Max suddenly cut in and angrily yelled." You’re still thinking of him?"Elyon turned her back and quickly ran away.He ran after her but she managed to run into the hall where the dinner buffet was being held and disappearedinto the crowd.He tried looking for her but his dad found him and held himdown for some photo ops for the press.Max hated himself.How come she always has to slip away from him?The fireworks at London.The Heist back at Hearst High?And now this?
After an hour long drive, Elyon managed to reach the apartment of oneof Micah, one of her elder brothers.Micah was confused on why their youngest who was cladin a sarong wanted to stay at his place all of a sudden.He was curious but didn’t ask anyway.Micah’s boyfriend, Ben quickly offered the poor girl some teaas Micah started to prepare the spare room in their apartment for his sister.Elyon turned her phone on once again and found that it wasfilled with several missed calls from Max.She decided to crash at Micah’s so Max wouldn’t be ableto find her.She was miserable on what she had done.She started to think how she suddenly missed the warmthof Max’s embrace and the tingly sensations he had left onher lips. But it was wrong. So wrong. She was confused and didn’t know how to face him again.She wondered if Max really will break up with Karaand if he’d ever reach out to her again after she fled fromhim a while ago. She thought of resigning from the tutorial center. She had no idea how to face Max afterwhat just happened. "So… anything you want to talk about?" asked Micahas he and Ben sat down with her for some tea.Ben quickly offered a blueberry cheesecake to go with the tea.Elyon suddenly wanted to laugh and cry at the same time.
