a kind word
I bet someone said something that got on your nerves today. How do I know? B/c words that tear down are everywhere. In fact, it’s doubtful that any of us can go a whole day around people without hearing something opinionated, negative, critical or just plain mean.
In Ephesians 4, the Apostle Paul instructs us to put off the old self and put on the new self, “created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness.” He goes on, “Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen.”
Our day is not over yet, and we have the opportunity to make a huge impact in someone else’s life. As Proverbs 12:25 says, “Anxiety weighs down the heart, but a kind word cheers it up.”
Maybe you were the recipient of an unkind word today. Pay that forward in a positive way by flipping it upside down and saying something kind to someone in your life. You may just ease their anxiety and cheer them up. It only takes a few seconds.
**In the event you were the one giving the unkind word today, take a moment to pray and acknowledge that before God. Perhaps you can offer a better word to that person before the day is up!
