News from WE'RE LOUD FEST:
Hey ho to all,
Well, this blasted Delta variant has hit Oaxaca hard. We’ve been living the worst moments of the pandemic over the last two weeks, with a heavy spike in infections and deaths. As a result, the authorities have closed most beaches up and down the coast until the end of August, and parties are strictly forbidden.
Does that mean we’re canceling the festival? Definitely NOT — we’ve been faced with a myriad of challenges organizing this festival around the world — from financial meltdown in Greece to coup d’etat in Turkey. Those didn’t stop us — we did what we could so that the show could go on, and that’s what we’ll do in Puerto Escondido.
That doesn’t mean we’re going to throw a party while hospitals are full — we wouldn’t dream of holding an event that puts our community in danger, or one that helps the spread of a virus that has kept us away from live music for such a long time. We will continue to organize & promote the festival, and then make a final decision in late September.
We won’t put tickets on sale until we’re sure the festival can happen on the dates we’ve planned it. We also recommend waiting to look for flights — the best deals can be found 6-8 weeks before travel anyhow.
We still have high hopes! The vaccination campaign is in full force all over Mexico, and it is projected that by October, over 75% of the population will have received their doses, so we’re looking good for November — as long as we all get our shots and take the necessary precautions.
About accommodation: we have an official hotel for the festival! It has two swimming pools, and some of our parties will happen there. Later this week we’ll begin accepting room reservations. Your deposit will guarantee you first chance to buy festival tickets, and if we do have to postpone, it will of course be refundable.
