You know I love a big Shane.
I’ve now written three separate stories where he has gotten really big. And I read everyone else’s too.
One thing I keep thinking about is — What happens when Shane gets too big to skate?
I think no matter how much he loves his body and his size that will still be a sad and bittersweet moment.
That boy loves to skate. He’s been skating since he could walk. He was the fastest skater in the league for years — proven at All Stars.
At some point it would become impossible.
First to go would be the ability to tie his own skates - but Ilya can do that for him, so that’s not the dealbreaker.
At some point the weight and size of his legs makes skating impossible. He can’t lift his feet enough. He has too wide of a stance. His waddle doesn’t translate to the ice.
And if he loses his balance he’s screwed. The Shane who can barely get off the couch and can’t get up off the floor DEFINITELY cannot get himself back to his feet if he falls on the ice. Ilya would have to drag him to the edge of the rink and they’d have to get Shane on solid ground to get him back vertical. It would be quite a scene but also sad.
Skating was like breathing or walking and now he can’t do it.
Ilya consoles him. There are a lot of feelings.
