jamba simply had her fill of the fandom and moved on. (things also seemed like they were getting a lot busier for her on the personal front.) haven’t spoken with her in a while, but she was doing well last time i did~

GR... they were getting into other fandoms, had another blog, and then both blogs sort of tapered off in activity. the last message i sent them never got a response. i’m really not sure what became of them, sorry.

Heya Rawr, this is kinda random but I was wondering if you have any tips or tricks for getting over nerves when writing gift fics? There's so many fics I want to write, but the folks they're for are so skilled at breathing life into those characters and love and understand all their little nuanced ways so well, that I'm afraid to get them wrong? I'm afraid to write things that won't be worth the people they're being gifted to. I know it's a weird question but appreciate any thoughts. 🤍

Hey WH Anon. Firstly, it's so lovely that you want to write someone a gift! I'll start by saying that whatever you write will be gratefully received. And strap yourself in, this is about to get dramatic and emotional af. On brand, to be fair.

I've downloaded the gift fics I've received and they're on my Kindle. Every time I feel lonely, I go read them and remember that I meant enough to this person at one point for them to spend their actual time on me. It's the same with every piece of art people tag me in.

But, I know the feeling of imposter syndrome so I'll give some practical tips too.

Know their squicks and triggers. If you're gifting fic, then I assume you'll already know some of these. You don't want to inadvertently gift something that will make your friend feel uncomfortable. If this worries you, then it's always worth just asking.

Know their likes. Check their bookmarks. Do you story spin with them? Exchange DMs? Have they reblogged a particular theme of story? Are they an unapologetic Lil' Bleater Stan? What does this person live and breathe? Do they write and draw? The whole "oh, fuck, I mean enough to you that you know this about me" is a powerful feeling.

Get a beta to calm your nerves.

Take the pressure off and focus on what you want to say to your friend (even if it is: I agree with you that these two characters should bone... here they are boning, ain't it great?) If you love this person enough to want to give them a piece of your soul in art form, and you are friends, then they will love it. They will see you in it and download it to their Kindle to keep forever.

There. Is. No. Such. Thing. As. Wrong. There is such a thing as "preferred interpretation" and "disliked interpretation". Look at what that person likes, how they write the character, how they enjoy reading the character (point 2) and take some hints. Like an artist doing a character study of someone's face, note down some key tenets of the characterisation. If it's Eskel, is he soft or a bit jaded? Is he himbo or is he intelligent and shrewd?
