Based on my blog, what are some assumptions you have or some things that are super confusing about the trilogy? Anon or not, send me 🖋️ + an assumption and I’ll tell you how accurate it is!
Like almost every other character in A Voyage to Arcturus so far, the neopronoun user also dies. Also ae was in no way a main character, which is disappointing.

most important of note: the entire sawada family is ghouls!! maybe it’s just iemitsu and nana, maybe there’s a sprawling sawada ghoul line, maybe primo was a ghoul too. y’all
SETTING
CCG in most major countries have employed their own versions of the Udnerworld to Take Care Of Ghouls In, i.e. slaughter them
most of them are pretty good about it?
japan’s yakuza for example is pretty cooperative, since they all get to use their new shiny quinque swords and Protect The People at the same time
triads are bugnuts unhelpful. so’s the mafia.
russian mafiya accepts anyone who’s gone to jail a million times. if a ghoul commits a crime, goes to jail without being found out, and comes out of it alive, look, that’s stone cold mafiya material, get in the bus
tough luck, italian CCG, the mafia is too popolino (the sicilian underclass) give a damn about their Down With Ghouls mindset
instead the mafia more or less has a deadlocked monopoly on ghoul-related services, is composed of a mix of ghouls and humans (and very rarely the unnoticed One Eye) that is focused more on keeping peace and balance than keeping humans safe.
they don’t really care about keeping safe. they just make sure everyone plays nice. y’all can murder each other all you want but any human or ghoul who goes about on a massacre gets beat down (see: voracious eaters, killers who go after only ghouls)
thanks to all the ghouls in italy and because the mafia is the frickin mafia, crapshot off-brand quinques are everywhere.
some of them really frickin suck. there’s an entire black market dedicated to quinques
the CCG overlooks the mafia’s.. overlooking.. of ghouls... just for the occasional Really Neat Quinque they can commandeer when they feel like it
which isn’t often, because the black market kicks up a fuss whenever the government gets involved
italian regional CCG keeps trying to appeal to CCG united to pass some kind of regulation for quinque quality control, at least in CCG hands, but some of the best quinques are black market, so it just don’t work
literally black markets for quinques in every part of the world with the tech to make them, which doesn’t always have to be Top Notch. lot of them are just crappy dagger-like things, every now and then you get a really sharp whip or some traditional-like weapon
someone once made an atlatl-based quinque. no one knows how. it’s been lost to time. it’s some kind of crazy legend amongst CCG and the black market.
‘Dying Will’ exists as it does in canon, flames and all.
kagune Dying Will is an off-shoot of the canon ‘heat generation’ ability, except coded with dying will flame colors and attributes, and is also a lot more common than it is in TG canon
does not manifest the same way in ghouls as it does in humans; human dying will is same as canon, ghoul dying will stems mainly from the kagune itself
CHARACTER STUFF
iemitsu: bikaku (dying will heat generation ability)
born in japan to two ghouls. they told him to keep his head down, keep the sawada line going, stay out of human affairs
he responds by getting involved with the yakuza.. which is pretty Anti-Ghoul
dying will apparently is really good for suppressing ghoul instincts
mostly works on encouraging ghoul equality and cracking down on the Voracious Eaters and other troublemakers in the area around namimori.
then fucked off to the mafia where everything is both better and worse, got into CEDEF and worked his way up to leader, made slightly easier with proof that he’d survived being culled from the yakuza
iemitsu takes the family out hunting whenever he comes home, if he doesn’t have a haul of frozen stuff with him. mostly this involves crawling the mountains and woods for dead hikers, or visiting popular suicide spots. a lot of butchers set up shop near them to get to the bodies before pests and bugs do. not all of them are ghouls so you can risk sneaking onto unofficially owned property instead of buying.... live fast die hard
nana: koukaku (heavy shield variant)
very crafty and cautious, money manager, food pincher
will take just about any avenue possible to acquire food for herself, and later for tsuna. murder is more of a last resort though.
loves iemitsu, but since he’s rarely ever home (and is, y’know, still alive and kicking) she doesn’t worry so much about his eating habits
definitely does not cook up feasts for iemitsu whenever he visits, but she (and other ghoul-moms) have learned How To Potluck with humans for the sake of fitting in
prefers to buy from the butchers rather than sneaking in. really, iemitsu. teaches her son not to do stuff so dangerous and reckless, no matter how ‘manly’ it seems.
tsuna: bikaku-koukaku mix (lighter shield, dying will heat generation)
inherited both his parents’ kagune types as well as iemitsu’s dying will heat generation ability. iemitsu never explained the dying will thing though so he just kind of assumed he sets himself on fire somehow. it doesn’t hurt?? Weird.
learned cautiousness and craftiness and money/food managing from mom, still learns nothing from dad except some ghoul-y things from around the world.
but their relationship isn’t as bad?
still a coward. has a hard time using the bikaku part of his kagune.
complains.... a little less than he does in canon, due to their situation. but still complains. Because.
all in all, a middle-class family with a few inherent worries. iemitsu met nana while she was outside namimori for Shopping. since he was yakuza, she was very hesitant about him and though they did eventually fall in love and get married and had a kid, she never told him she was a ghoul and he never told her he was a ghoul. tsuna has a hard time manifesting the bikaku part, so she never thought he would’ve inherited anything else.
the only reason they found out was because, despite all his teachings, tsuna can’t help Not Complaining About Crappy Human Food, to which nana freaked out and attacked iemitsu, only to be defended against?? and then hit him again anyway for scaring them so much. turns out tsuna’s not a One Eye after all!
reborn: fucking overpowered sun arcobaleno human hitman with a black market ukaku-based gun quinque, the fucker. carries a million magazines with different kagune-type q bullets at all times (off-brand, of course). master at quick-reloading and smuggling weapons on his person. adult sized, because. leon? maybe.
probably going to have a similar history as he does in IIB, but more ghouls and guns and murder

what’s self-preservation
just as off the walls crazy as he is in IIB
everyone thinks he’s a ghoul because he drinks coffee like all the time, hates cakes, and can only occasionally be seen eating a sandwich or some other italian type food. he laughs at them.
literally is not scared of ghouls and even pushes tsuna to stop pretending to eat human food, vongola doesn’t need an asset who starves himself. go grab an organ or an arm or something
probably damaged in that sense, but does he care? no.

in the drabble i mentioned ‘artificial flavoring’- i don’t recall that the manga ever addresses something like that? but here it’s something like ‘artificial flavoring tailored to ghoul tongues’ which is probably another black market thing. everything ghoul-related is black market.
doesn’t taste exactly like its Real Equivalent, but it’s meant to ~provide a variety of flavors~ to the usual dull meal and is generally considered an Elite Item and is damn expensive unless you know someone in the black market (like.. iemitsu)
can ghouls eat processed humans? like, cooked? frozen and slushied? pureed smoothie? human barbecues? i’m a very morbid person. i need to know.

or, y’know, black market it. there’s already a huge demand for black market organ transplants ANYWAY, let’s let ghouls help / make it worse
i know everyone wants to write about oppressed ghouls rebelling against the government but i’m a dark person i wanna dip into the.. darker side.. of it all... u_u;;; where everyone is horrible
i need a United Ghouls Summit just so i can have claude, vivien, and kaede as representatives for their country.
