Varis gently takes Eclair's chin in his hand and carefully encourages her to look at him. His voice is... low, oddly gentle. Speaking this way is foreign to him. "There is no reason to be embarrassed. You startled me. I do not want any more of the people that I care about to die for me, that is ... that is all."
She is, needless to say, a bit shocked, overwhelmed? He was trying to comfort her in a way? A flush came to her cheeks as she looked up at him. He was not one so open, but he was trying. It was hard to look into his eyes knowing that her actions had to have been at least somewhat disappointing. And yet, his tone didn’t denote disappointment. That tone, she knew all too well, after all.
“I’m sorry, Your Radiance. I know it was cold of me to mention such a thing, even in jest. I-” slender fingers slid to wrap around his hand, gently brushing his open palm. Her voice lowered, seeking to match his reassuring tone with her own “I would never hurt you, truly. My life, however, is yours. And in service to you, for the rest of my days I shall remain.” She found it hard to still her trembling, her voice wavering and quieting even more so than before.
“There is not one more precious to me than you.”
