Adventures in Tea! Part 2!

Today I brewed my second tea: Tardis Blend by Cara M.

Again, let's start with the description: Tastes bigger than the cup And the blend: black tea, orange peels, natural bergamot flavor, blue cornflowers, natural blackberry flavor, natural vanilla flavor, blackberry leaves

First impressions: this tea smells so strong!!!  Like I can literally waft it toward me and, phew!  I'm a little afraid to try it haha. 

However, This tea has a very mild flavor.  It isn't too strong in any sense.  I think it's the blackberry that does it.  It's almost like drinking watered down blackberry juice without the sugar.  That's not to say the tea is bland.  The orange gives it a nice tang over the berry flavor and the base black tea gives a good bitter aftertaste.  The tea is definitely predominately fruity but because blackberry is a deep kind of flavor, the tea doesn't feel too "fruity."  I don't think I'm making any sense.  I feel like this tea could benefit from a shot of sugar.  Let's try that.

With just a little bit of sugar this tea really goes to the next level!  It's like the best kind of warm juice.  The sugar works well with the deep flavor of the blackberry and compliments the bitterness well.  This tea is a very comforting blend and great for summertime.  It feels cooling in the mouth and reminds me of the best kinds of healthy desserts.

Overall, I give this tea a 9.5/10!  Without sugar, the tea works well as a dessert/breakfast tea again, paired with something sweeter.  It also works well as a before bed tea.  With sugar, this tea could work any time with any meal.  Very versatile and very delicious.  Loses a bit of points because it could have been more dynamic, but it is delicious on its own.  Thank you again Cara!  Much appreciated blend!

Adventures in Tea!

So recently I made a huge order at Adagio teas and bought 11, count 'em 11 fandom blends and I just now bought the tea pot to make them!  And since I'm a recently graduated Creative writing student with no writing projects on, I figured, why not give a few tea reviews?  Each time I try a new tea, I'll post a review here and hopefully some of you will be interested enough to buy some of your own!  (in case you are curious, the website is http://www.adagio.com/).

On with the review!  Tonight's tea: Harry Potter blend by Cara M.

First let's start with the description on the website: "Treacle tarts, pumpkin juice, and deep, warming spice.  Boyish, yet brave, resourceful, and powerful."  And the ingredients: "Blended with black tea, cloves, ginger root, cardamom pods, natural pumpkin spice flavor, natural caramel flavor, cinnamon bark, marigold flowers, natural cinnamon flavor."

Now first remarks I'd like to make are a bit general.  I have a shit-ton of allergies, so my tea buying is sometimes limited by what won't kill me.  There was a brief panic moment when I thought I was having a reaction drinking this tea (possible, as I have never tried marigold flowers before), but I am alive and well so thank you Cara!  Also, I shared this tea with my father and notoriously picky step-mother, who both greatly enjoyed it!  So again, good job Cara on being a crowd pleaser!

I used about three teaspoons of tea to brew about five cups.  I don't think I steeped it long enough because my first sips were very bland.  However, after I brewed my own cup longer, I could really taste the flavor.  This tea was not too bitter but not overly sweet.  It had a nice rich flavor and it didn't taste too much like pumpkin pie, which I was afraid it might.  It had just the right amount of spiciness and bitterness to keep the tea interesting to the palate while also carrying enough sweetness that I didn't need to put sugar in.  The cinnamon gave the tea a nice warm feeling on the tongue and the ginger and cardamom left a good lingering taste of spice behind.  The black tea itself was never overwhelmed by the spices nor the spices by the tea.  It was a good blend of flavors.

I would definitely recommend this tea as a good after dinner blend, and a very nice pairing to pumpkin pie!  The sharpness/spiciness/bitterness of the tea will nicely offset the sweetness of the pie and make a good combination of flavors.  I would also suggest this as a breakfast tea with pastry, like cinnamon buns or a few biscotti.  I myself sampled it with a double chocolate biscotti and the combination was marvelous.

This tea receives an Emma rating of 8/10 overall.  A definite 10/10 for flavor, but for versatility on when to drink it loses some points.  I don't see it being a good tea for eating, say lunch, with, and on its own was a little less satisfying, but as a desserty/breakfasty tea it was amazing!  I can't wait to try the next tea!  I hope you guys enjoy these reviews and are inspired to buy your own teas!  Once again, thank you to Cara for the blend!

So! We’ve all been busy as hell with life and our blogs have all died, but we (notaspoiler, widows-grip and eyesuphigh WHO HAS LOST HER ACCOUNT) did New Year’s Countdown at Stark Tower (actually Barton’s house :p) and uh, yeah. Pictures coming. =w= Might start updating sporadically, but we shall see (because my hair’s not right for Thor anymore, and I don’t like the look of wigs.)
