as someone who was been handicapped my entire life it does kinda bother me when people call for “strong” for doing things. Like thanks? but im just here in my own little world trying to what i like and can and because its not as easy for me that makes me an inspiration?
like. no? what else am i going to do? i understand how it can be interpreted as strong from an outsiders perspective but its just normal everyday life for me. I like to swim. but i cant climb to get out of the pool. so i swim my little heart out and then gets pulled out. thats not strength? thats just adapting and surviving in the situation im in.
along the lines of pools. th last pool party i went to was when i could still talk, and i really wanted to go off the diving board. bc diving boards are cool and makes me feel like i can jump, something i cant do normally. so i climbed up on the board and used my crutches to walk to the end. threw my crutches to the side and dove. i was in the moment though just trying not to fall off the board and wasnt paying attention to anyone around me. But when i came up from the dive almost everyone was cheering and clapping and came up after talking about it. but this wasnt strength in my opinion. i just wanted to go splash.
and this trend never has and never will make sense to me. i try to just to ordinary mundane things. just trying to exist you know. but i get called strong for it. i dont feel strong im just doing my thing like everyone else. and i dont like being praised for it. and it kinda sucks even more because you making a big deal out of it actually takes away from the experience for me.
i dont feel strong. i just want to go about my life as “normal” as possible. and just because my normal is harder that doesnt make me strong. i dont know any other way? and i dont feel strong when im crying bc i cant do things or do them normally, or im entire body is in pain.
wow. this is some word vomit, whoops.
tldr i dont like being called strong.
