Let's Talk About Prayer!
Ok, so I know that this post may be a bit overdue since I have gotten many questions about prayer and how to do it, BUT it is not too late so let's get to it!
Why Pray?
There are many reasons as to why praying is important! One important reason is that praying connects us with God!
Philippians 4:6-7
"6 do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. 7 And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus."
Here is a link to a website that lists reasons as to why we should pray AND provides scriptures to back up each of those reasons!!

How To Pray?
So, how to pray. I personally see prayer as a time where I talk to God like I would talk to a best friend. I tell God things such as how my day is/was, how I'm feeling, etc. I don't hold back from telling God what is on my mind because He already knows what's on my heart, so why hold back? Also, talking to God about what's on my mind helps me a bunch! It helps me feel much less weighed down by whatever burdens me.
I think that some people, or even a lot of people, complicate prayer and make it seem like it has to be done a certain way and certain things have to be said in a specific way and that's not the case! I consider prayer as a time to simply talk to God and listen to Him!
So, try talking to God like you would RESPECTFULLY talk to a best friend. Just talk to Him. You don't have to be pressured to talk a certain way or sound a certain way. God loves you! He isn't going to ignore you because you aren't praying in a certain format! I am sure that He loves hearing from us!
We can talk to God about anything. Literally anything!! We don't have to "hide" things from God or feel uncomfortable talking to God about certain things. Like I mentioned before, God already knows about everything we think so why not just go ahead and verbalize our thoughts to Him to clear our minds and get things off of our chests (side note: but keep in mind to be respectful to God!!)?
When and where can I Pray?
We don't always have to pray at 5:00 in the morning on our knees with our eyes closed while behind closed doors. We can literally pray in the car, in the shower, in class, while laying in bed, while walking around the grocery store. We can pray at anytime and anywhere! It's not like cell service, where the connection gets bad in certain places possibly at certain times! (side note: I'm talking about here on earth, if one is in hell...prayer ain't gonna work out...).
I will mention, though, that finding a quiet and distraction free or distraction limited place to pray everyday, even for just five minutes a day, is important because in that space, one can stay much more focused on God. I am not saying that one ALWAYS have to pray in that space, but praying there when possible would most likely be more beneficial because it presents the opportunity to stay focused on God and not be so distracted for a certain amount of time.
I personally think that it is harder to stay really focused on God in the car, or at the store, or in class, etc, because of all the distractions. So finding a quiet space to really spend one on one quality time with God is recommended!
