Before you can even entertain the idea of reading Where We Went Wrong (Prologue coming soon!) you must first meet the Team of ‘23, also known as the best Quidditch team the Slytherin house had seen in years. The Team of ‘23, are a group of five Slytherin Quidditch players. This group has perfected their game so much over their seven years at Hogwarts that they have helped their house win the house cup 5 years straight.
The Team of ‘23 consists of Dominique Weasley the Seeker, Scorpius Malfoy and Jacob Chang the Chasers, Tanner Bell the Beater, and Michael Zabini the Keeper. The other two positions, third chaser and second beater, are normally filled by which ever seventh year at the time fits best.
It all started in their third year, Scorpius’ second year. Dominique and Tanner had made the team the year before but were really just bench-warmers, something they didn’t really mind as they were the youngest on the team. All of that changed when tryouts came for their third year. By the end of the tryouts during the practice game it seemed as if the five kids just clicked. Michael could block any shot, Tanner easily worked well with whoever was put as his partner and could bat away any bludger with ease. Scorpius and Jacob were spitfire fast, weaving in and out of the other players on their way to the goal. With all of those pieces in place Dominique was able to reach what everyone thought was her true potential. She was able to weave through the pitch and focus on finding the snitch instead of getting hit. After that tryout the captain of the team knew they had to play.
For the first few weeks of actual games the captain at the time, Nathaniel Carlson, would put the five kids on at various times, but realized that none of them worked as well by themselves. It seemed as if when they were all together, their energy combined to make something like a gift from the gods. They were all stronger, faster, better when on the same pitch together. From then on every other game Nathaniel would play them, he didn’t want to edge out the older members, but it was obvious that this group of kids was going to be the next big thing.
By 6th year, Dominique, Scorpius, Jacob, Michael and Tanner were playing for the Slytherin quidditch team every game. This made some of the older kids angry, but they couldn’t deny that it felt good to win.
Read Where We Went Wrong to learn more about the Team of ‘23 and why they’re called that.
