It was a sunny day as we made our way to the short and easy Whetstone Vista trial located just off Brush Creek Road. This easy hike is mellow enough for the whole family to enjoy. Its easy access and connection to the Upper Upper Loop trail allows you to wander whichever way you so desire. There’s nothing better than enjoying this hike with friends and family as it strengthens relationships and allows you to get away. This trail is short, but offers amazing views of Whetstone Mountain that will leave you in awe. So, have fun and be safe!
Make your way to the Whetstone Vista trail head by heading south on Highway 135 before taking a left at Skyland/Club at Crested Butte entrance. After turning on to Brush Creek Road, continue for another mile before you reach the Whetstone Vista trailhead sign. You will notice a small parking area on the right shoulder. Park your car, and get ready for a relaxing stroll through the woods. If you make it to the dirt road, stop and turn around as you have gone too far.
Continue on the Whetstone Vista trail and soak in this marvelous beauty this trail offers. You will notice a jungle of lush green aspen trees all around you. As you continue on, you will most likely encounter cute and entertaining chipmunks that will be chirping and wondering who their new visitors are. Take some pictures of these little guys and admire their playful demeanor.
As you continue on the trail, for a short time, you will come across the connection to the Upper Upper Loop trail. Here, you can either go left or right. We decided to head to the right and get a birdseye view of Whetstone Mountain. However, be cautious as you hike on these trails as they are popular trails for mountain bikers.
The Whetsone Vista trail is a great, short, and easy hike. It is the ideal hike for an afternoon stroll with friends or family. The views are astounding and awe inspiring and will leave you with a sense of peace. During our short hike, we sat down on some rocks a top the Upper Upper Loop and listened to the wind blow through the trees with the sounds of natural wind chimes. We soaked in the beauty, took a few deep breaths and made our way back to our vehicles. Get out there and have fun on this awesome hike!
