I have a lot of thoughts about the MurderBot show, but I think one of my very favorite things is that Gurathin's whole vibe is a man who, six years ago, had a moment where he said "I've only had these friends for one hour but if anything happens to them I'm going to shoot everyone in this room and then myself" AND NOW. NOW he is in a situation where something might happen to his friends and he is indeed gearing up to shoot everyone in the room and then himself.

there’s a million and one things i could say about an atyd adaptation being picked up by trad publishing for over 3 million pounds. and i likely will say those million and one things at a later date.

but it can easily be summarised up with - your actions in fandom are not contained to fandom. that is why critical thinking and discretion (especially in this fandom, with this creator, and this political climate) are essential.

I realized I have only made like five posts in the last month and a half? LIKE LOOK AT THIS PLUMMETING DESCENT

no wonder I feel like I don't talk to people, I stopped talking on tumblr and never replaced it with anything else (the one month I had this url in 2012 looks like not much less than the entirety of 2025? tbf 2025 was a shit show but still)

some of that is of course that tumblr has quieted down a fair bit, but I don't want to be part of the problem!

also where the fuck is everyone? I find discord only marginally tolerable since it's too isolating by design, all those separated rooms that don't even have windows, but I do miss harmless chatting which is hard to do here

/tbf to discord, I do also miss the times I've managed to be comfortable in a server and just hung out in a voice room or call and maybe shared a game screen or listened to music and people could drop in and out as they were around, that was a nice low-key option, but most of them aren't that casual

(I miss forums? public enough they didn't get as spirally as discord, you could lurk when you were feeling antisocial, etc.)

after finding out that the en server's translation was completely different from the original, I went and found every version of the line that ena says to mizuki while the two of them hold hands

it turns out, it seems like the only version that completely friendzoned mizuki is the english version

the original japanese version reads as "let's be together, Mizuki"

the korean version says "let's stay together, Mizuki" (had to use a dictionary since i don't speak korean, but it's a similar meaning)

the traditional chinese version says either "let's be with us together, mizuki" or "let's be together, Mizuki," unsure how exactly to translate this sentence since 我們 (us) can be inclusive (me, the group, and you) or exclusive (just me and the group)

the simplified chinese version says "...return to our side, Mizuki" or "... come back to us, Mizuki," which is different from how the original japanese version phrased it in that it cannot be interpreted as the two of them being together, but instead as them becoming a whole group together again

this translation makes some sense as a localization, but it does lose it's romantic undertones in this version

and finally.... the english version saying "Let's keep being friends, Mizuki" is just completely different. like upsettingly so. the sentiment has completely changed in a way that intentionally nullifies any romantic undertones by friend-zoning Mizuki

and we know it's intentional because the after show stamp on en (sourced from the colorful corner stream) says "Let's stay together" even through it's from the same part in the story

Being a Toriel-fan post chapter 4 is suffering.

It's like the whole "akshually, it was Toriel's fault all these kids died" discourse from the Undertale days, except somehow worse.

Look, is DT Toriel perfect?

Heck no. She doesn't pay nearly enough attention to Kris and there's many signs that she subconsciously or otherwise favored Asriel over them.

But the sheer amount of vitriol I've seen the fandom fling at her after the Jitterbug scene is kind of ridiculous.

Toriel was having a fun evening with a friend after a shitty day where her stalker humiliated her in front of her church and people are calling her an alcoholic and a bad parent and whatnot.

Funnily enough I don't see nearly as much criticism towards Asgore's behavior, even though it's high-key creepy.

Waiting in the bushes for your ex to come out of church and then jumping and lovebombing her isn't normal. Using your kid to bring your ex presents you know she doesn't want and is uncomfortable with isn't normal. Intentionally sabotaging your ex's relationship with another man and talking shit about her and her feelings for him behind her back isn't normal.

Both Dreemurr parents aren't handling the divorce well, but I'd say Asgore is the reason why it's still so ugly.

Y'all are, as always, way too eager to put all the blame for a bad situation on a female character while completely ignoring a male character's faults.
