S2e12 the pitt liveblog
- HOW did Joy or any other med student hear about Dennis living in the hospital??? (And it's cool to get clarification that "it wasn't months", funny that this is the part he denies.) -- also Gerran is so handsome when he smiles 😩 I'm sure the selfie she grabbed has him looking down at her, shocked.
- Ms Azurmendi's husband going straight upstairs and not seeing his wife caused a lot of doubt in Langdon... I fear I need to do a half an hour interview with this man and learn everything about his marriage and family and how he views love. And, also, how are cases even assigned? Why are King and Langdon on this one?? (Probably because subtext around their rocky home lives is a big deal,)
- Al Hashimi hitting us with the "let's not jump to conclusions", methinks this is a big theme this season (didn't the season begin with Santos having a zebra case?)
- "in private" "people are gonna start to talk" soooo I'm convinced Robby will only give Al Hashimi the time of day as long as their relationship is flirty aaaand I hate him for that, and I desperately need s3 to center themes of love/marriage/commitment because he (and half of everybody else) is soooo fucked up and I need to know all of it
- Al Hashimi's actress, the way she opens her mouth SOOO WIDE before her "I'm sorry, what?" The delivery of that line started before she even spoke a word, queen I will slay your adversaries 🖐️😩
- "was he stealing drugs from this ED?" "This ED is the best of the best --" NEHHH 🚨🚨 WRONG ANSWER 🚨🚨
- "and it's going to be yours to fuck up" ITS ALREADY FUCKED UP!!!
- TO HIS CREDIT ITS AMAZING THIS ED FUNCTIONS AS WELL AS IT DOES CONSIDERING THE RELEVANT PARTIES DONT SEEM TO KNOW ABOUT DRUG DIVERSION RISKS AND THE TWO VETERAN ATTENDINGS ARE SUICIDE RISKS AJSHADGGAKSKS ALL IN SPITE OF HIS MANAGEMENT!! IM LOSING MY MIND
✨ I'm only 5 minutes in. Apologies, this is going to be a looooong post ✨
- Al Hashimi recommending two attendings during the day shift is how we're going to get more of Jack Abbot next season and I'm convinced this was done on purpose FOR that purpose.
- Robby does NOT get to be the one to walk away from that conversation, WHAT. GET BACK HERE FUCKER???
- Have I mentioned that Javadi is my favorite character? Really, it surprised me too but I did one of those character brackets and she consistently comes out on top. That's MY Gen Z overachieving representation!
- "Snowflake" yup knew Monica was MAGA when she was chatting up the ICE officer
- Okay, Whitaker planning on celebrating the 4th with Amy... And then being a big strong man hauling that guy out of his truck. I'm actually wondering how ambulance bays even work, it seems like private vehicles drive up regularly, so should there be a nurse stationed there?
- actually I'm making assumptions. Whitaker BETTER be celebrating the 4th with Amy because if she's calling him down there to work, wtf. But also, the 4th is kind of a "serious" holiday; in text it's established many couples are (or aren't) celebrating together - Becca & Adam & his parents, Garsantos, Noelle trying to get Robby to stay one extra night (the 4th). Amy's almost definitely introducing him to her extended family. If they're not dating, really what is going on?
- Robby is not going about talking to Dana about the code Hula Hoop in the right way at all. It's so fucking weird, he's usually the guy ready to break rules and shield others from the consequences.
- "you are not yourself today" Uh, buddy? "Makes two of us then" THANK YOU DANA. "I can take it" noooo you can't!
- Dana, I'm in love with you for finally calling out the park Robby picked because that has been driving ME wild
- Duke saying he'll do it when Robby gets back... But Robby don't wanna come baaaaack... "[Staying] won't kill you, but leaving might." I fear Robby is talking about them BOTH rn
- it's nice to see Mohan be a senior resident and teaching King :3
- Emma saying she got way worse from her older brothers - I NEED her and Whitaker chatting about their rural backgrounds and brothers ASAP
- I've been managing the gore on this show pretty well but this head injury is making me ill
- "Santos for 800" "What are raney clips, Alex?" ah I fear I'm falling for the Santos Robby fatherdaughterism propaganda 😩 very cute
- Langdon doesssnt like being corrected by Al Hashimi... And Whitaker seemed to think it was weird that either Langdon left, or asked HIM to come and check in with Langdon later. I really want to read the script to get context for all these weird lingering looks.
- yessss... McKay, Al Hashimi, and Langdon all having patients who are parents and discussions about parenthood and loss..... YESSSSS
- As someone who also struggles to cry, and rarely does so, "I just wish I could cry again, you know?" is deeply relatable to me. Langdon asking her if she wants a hug in such a flat affect is also so interesting to me, like, I think it's a genuine offer and he might also benefit, but case in point: this job makes them shut off their feelings! And there's no easy fix :/
- Mel is extremely sweet/smart for offering her personal positive experience with assisted living, I think that removes some stigma, especially age related stigma
- I'm literally so baffled by Garcia. Santos sort of offering an olive branch by saying she agrees with her... Robby awkwardly also agreeing... "Enjoy the fireworks" but said to the patient already injured by fireworks, when the person she cancelled on is in the room. "You're going to make a great ex husband one day"??? Cut to Langdon???
- somehow Langdon is offering way more support to Dana than Robby has 🤧🤧
- Discussion with the fireworks guy, how having a license/being a professional doesn't actually keep you safe (imo a parallel to the motorcycle license referenced early s2, but also "physician, heal thyself" Dana says twice in s1.) Like... There are things we cannot and should not do for ourselves, regardless of how qualified we might be.
- two different "thank you for saving" [X] this episode! (Will we get a third...?)
- Whitaker planning on rural emergency medicine! Tbh that's another thing he has in common with Ogilvie low-key. (This conversation suggests a familiarity of Whitaker and Javadi :)) Whitaker also seems extremely determined, almost cocky, about that choice - which strikes me as interesting since he's only been an R1 for like, four days at this point. (Didn't Mohan also think she had her entire career planned out...?) I wonder if a rural ER would bore Whitaker at this point, but what do I know? Kudos to the writers for addressing Medicare cuts directly in this episode.
- "soon you're gonna be ordering me around" and small pause, changing the topic quick - Mateo if I didn't know any better, I'd say that was a flirt!
- okay don't mix drugs kids!
- "those bayonets have never met me" Donnie my maannn 😌 I like that his skills with suturing get continued attention!
- "if you're gonna have a fracture, it's the best one to have" lol
"it's hard to find a balance between respecting your loved ones autonomy and their safety,... And Mel standing in the middle, nodding. But this is ALSO about Samira's mother, too. Ugh parallels are like crack cocaine to me
- the audio work as Robby leaves his conversation with Duke to go to Dante, you KNOW he's having flashbacks and fighting off a panic attack, because they used the same auditory cues in s1 for Robby and s2 for Mohan... But, we viewers have been locked out of Robby's POV this season!
- Good catch Robby/You too, Trinity/Is that sincere? - GARCIA I DONT UNDERSTANDD YOUUU
- "vaya con dios or whatever the bikers are saying these days" so this inclusion of religious themes feels like another death flag for Robby, but also maybe it's meant to call back to his use of the Shema prayer last season? Maybe Santos and Whitaker can offer some kind of spiritual guidance to a lost Robby; if he feels adrift, maybe it's appropriate to look to the next generation - generally, not in placing specific (white men) on pedestals.
- "predisposition to the pace" Robby's delivery of that line was so punchable. Mohan is a better person than me, she should stab him.
- "I let him get away with a crime, what does that make me?" Sorry I'm going to need to rewatch this conversation specifically 20 more times. Robby and Santos seems to have very similar feelings on this situation with Langdon
- Ah, he's strict with rules today to enforce self preservation onto others, knowing he's giving up on self preservation for himself.
- okay I will also need to rewatch the Whitsantos of it all 20 more times too. I saw their actors say they had a chance to briefly improvise talking about what it has been like to be roommates, and I think that was THIS, and the avocado stealing is sending meeee. Whitaker is SO interesting here, I was fully expecting the camera to pan from Javadi, entertained, to Whitaker cheesing it, because Santos insulting him is a dead giveaway that she cares so much. But thinking on it, his demand that she finally admit she likes having him as a roommate seemed far more stubborn and serious than teasing or sweet. ("I thought house-sitting for Robby was your way of getting me to move out" "I'm just her stress relief sex toy" sorry this is CRAZY)
- on the garsantos: I do think Santos has wanted them to be more serious all along, but she also has an avoidant personality and tries to preempt rejection. So "it's casual remember?" from Garcia may still be Garcia throwing Santos's words back in her face. And yet, if Garcia is indeed that spiteful, yes throw the entire relationship out
- also, Santos, throw those fucking suture rippers out! We saw you pocket that shit! (Her talking about Langdon possibly relapsing and not ten minutes later, she all but shows us she is going to, herself. Sigh.)
- Santos explaining that Robby is the only attending who "gets it" and sees through the bullshit is fascinating, but mostly deeply concerning, to me. She's straight up WRONG! And I will judgementally point to one of their parallels: they both have situationships at work that appear impersonal at best, and self esteem ruining at worst. ("Motorcycle Mike"? "Sex toy"? This is demeaning bullshit which both of you appear to be falling for. Girl, do not become that man.
- Okay! They had McKay call out Robby and Noelle Hastings situationship early this season to show, not tell, us that McKay is an accurate sniff tester. Which means when she all but tells Robby 'I know you're trying to get yourself killed', we really ought to believe her. Her approach isn't overwrought, she's not even saying goodbye, per se. She's more telling him, I know what you're doing.
- imo best episode of the season so far. The medical cases did a great job of anchoring character stories, and we got some really great momentum on these boiling character arcs. Wowowowowo-
