I HAVE SEEN YOU ARE ANOTHER WHRUNG FAN :) Can I get any thoughts about them? Au ideas, your thoughts on their dynamic, drawing suggestions— whatever, I'm just super excited about them and want an excuse to hear other people's opinions.

Oh god i could talk for hours about them.

I love them as both a very silly and fluffy ship, but also as one with extremely deep symbolism. I must also preface this by saying I am a stark believer that Whirl has always lied about his origins of being forged. There’s a lot that doesn’t fully line up in how he speaks about himself, and also note that he’s said he’s managed to live 5 million years, and the first wave of constructs were rolled out 5 million years ago as well (and he also Specifically remembers that time, and the info ABOUT the roll-out). There’s plenty more, but I think I’d rather save it for a dedicated post (one i do from my computer instead of my phone as well lmao)

With that out of the way, i think a huge thing that draws me to the ship between them is this idea of a ‘god’ that is truly ‘human’, compared to a once-regular guy turned into something Other that constantly toes the line between life and death. Rung’s normalness is a huge factor in why it’s just such a sweet pairing to me. Something something a god who especially loves the most damaged of beings, ones made ‘against nature’. and I say ‘god’ like that because I do genuinely believe the entire narrative idea was that none of the Guiding Hand were really much different at all from, say, any Outliers or Point-One Percenters who existed. Them being placed on such pedestals with all the mythos was born from Adaptus’ fuckass memory wipe beam shit.

Rung is such a passive and gentle sort of character, yet also plenty snarky enough (and also Very Autistic imo) to where his natural personality also contrasts perfectly with Whirl’s while also allowing them to have a lotta things in common (such as them both making things. I love to think about them just doing parallel play Rung fixing a model ship while Whirl works away on a new project :) ).

In many of my personal storylines, including one for a server I help run, my backstory I’ve added to Whirl actually gives him some connections to Censere (Mortilus) in passing, though he never knew who the guy in the huge clock tower he helped keep from collapsing /was/, they were what opened his mind to the turning gears all working in unison, keeping time. I’ve also added sorts of ‘secondary’ themes to each of the Guiding Hand, with Mortilus being Death and also Time (as the marching of time itself is inherently tied to the life cycle).

Basically, I’ve found ways to tie in symbolism of life and death to the funny nerd x crackhead ship. Yes, i also ship Primus and Mortilus.

There’s lots of other things i could say…. such as i enjoy the idea of Whirl starting to give him more thoughtful nicknames, which is just a headcanon of mine i have for him overall. when he cares about someone his nicknames for them start to be less mildly insulting/backhanded and more genuine. Good example is how Whirl called Chromedome ‘needles’ once, but in the RP server they’ve become friends and has taken to calling him ‘Goldie’.

On my Tomodachi island i have the nickname Whirl calls Rung set to ‘sunshine’ currently lol. i think he’d give him playful names related to him being very glowy, esp now knowing hes effectively a light god lmao. Rung and all Whirl’s other partners call him variations of birdie, of course <3

I’ll probably think of more to add later but that’s what I’ve got for right now!! I desperately wish this ship were more popular auuuugh.,,

“I trust you.” (I just let out the softest ‘aaww’ when I saw which one that was)

“May I?” Rung asked, keeping his tone soft as he carefully reached out. He got a nod in response, prompting him to complete the wavering gesture and apply the cloth to the other mech’s helm. His touch was gentle but firm as he attempted to cease some of the bleeding. “Is this okay?”

“Mhm.” Whirl hummed his response, his optic offline as Energon dripped down the side of his face, or lack there of. The fight wasn’t his fault—for once—and the other mech had come out worse than him. Surprisingly however, his current company had not been the one to offer the assistance.

“Can I ask why you came to me instead of Ratchet?” The psychiatrist asked.

“Well, seein’ as you’re a bit of a head doctor, thought you’d do better with this particular wound.” He joked, tapping the other side of his helm. The other mech smiled, not that he could see it, but he could certainly sense the slight disbelief in the bot’s field. “…I trust you.” He hesitantly admitted, onlining his singular optic. The golden gaze was slightly cracked and hard to see out of, but he didn’t care. Seeing his friend’s expression to his confession made it all the more worth it. 

“Thank you, Whirl.” Rung sounded as touched as he felt.

The aforementioned heli shrugged. “It’s not a big deal.” But they both knew that was a lie.
