Wrong Neck of the Woods (with @wiccathewizard)
“Well then,” she said to herself, “This looks like a good place to start!”
Sure it was only Summer, but preparing for Winter was one of the most important duties of any farmer. And if Angela wanted her ranch to continue running smoothly, she had to get all of her ducks lined up before it was too late. The barn would definitely need an upgrade, namely more state-of-the-art structures to defend her livestock from the harsh elements. Alterations like that, though necessary, were expensive. Not to mention they took a lot of lumber, money, and time. In light of the fairly recent restoration of Castanet’s forests, the carpenters were left with only a small supply of lumber saved to use on customers, and Angela insisted he keep it for the regular residents of the island. She was perfectly capable of chopping her own wood. Someone like Candace, not so much.
And that was how she found herself somewhere on the mainland, pulling a rickety old cart with her and trekking up into dark forests in search of sturdy trees to cut. She was quite a ways away from any towns, so if she went far enough into the woods, no one would notice if she took a couple of trees down, right? It was doubtful that anyone owned the land anyway. And didn’t forests need thinning out once in a while? Really, she was doing a good thing here! An hour’s hike later, she set the cart down in a particularly dense thicket and began to swing her axe against a tall fir, belting out a lively tune as she did. Today was going to be an awesome day!
