While the right thing to do obviously would've been to be honest with Glinda, I don't like the way people talk about Fiyero "leading Glinda on". She didn't even propose to him, she just decided on her own that they were getting married and it was revealed to him on stage in front of all those people? Hell, the head of propaganda was there too. How do you possibly say "no" in that situation. How do you say no or call the wedding off or break up with Glinda without hurting her more at that point? Or without putting YOURSELF in danger because you're hurting the image of yourself and Glinda that Morrible and the Wizard want to portray? Glinda isn't a blameless innocent poor thing who got her heart broken, she coerced a guy into marrying her through a public stunt and then was shocked and appalled when it didn't work out.

And yes, leaving her at the altar was a bad way to go about that, but that moment had nothing to do with Glinda in the first place. Fiyero did what he did there to protect Elphaba in a situation where her life was in immediate danger. There was no possible way he could have just gone back into his wedding venue and gotten married after pointing a gun at the Wizard's face??? He literally had no choice but to leave with Elphaba after that. People talk about him running away from their wedding, but not the fact that up until the point where his hand was forced, Fiyero was willing to go through with the wedding because even if it made him miserable, even if he didn't truly love Glinda, he didn't want to hurt her.

So yeah, it sucks that Glinda got her heart broken but I'm tired of Fiyero's actions being interpreted in bad faith just because people don't like him.

I don’t understand why anyone hates Fiyero. His storyline is about his mental health and his utter devotion to a badass woman. Shouldn’t we want MORE of this in men in media???

people making jokes about cynthia being ariana's big buff dom have the exact same energy as people who turn movie elphaba into a masc top that dwarfs pretty petite glinda but we're not ready to accept that yet

this might be a bold take, but i don’t believe fiyero deserved to be tortured and killed. at all. under any circumstances. “the it’s looking at things another way line was insensitive” cool. he was literally assassinated. “he didn’t respect elphaba’s boundaries” he was tied to a pole and beaten to death. “he cheated on glinda” he was executed by a fascist regime and left to be viewed. even if every single bad thing anybody on this damn site said about him is 100% true, which it isn’t, fiyero did not deserve to be tortured to death. tired of this bullshit. would love it if this fandom stopped trying to rationalize fascist brutalization because they like or dislike a character. and this goes for nessa too. i don’t want to hear any “well she was a bitch” nonsense ❤️❤️❤️ peace and love

It really bothers me that Elphaba apologises first in For Good and Glinda skates by with “there’s blame to share”. It really is like “I’m sorry the boy we both liked chose me” vs “I’m sorry for being an active participant in a corrupt government that villainised and ostracised you for years. also I’m at least indirectly responsible for your sister’s death.” These things are not equal!

I see people excuse Glinda surprise marriage-trap Fiyero because "he's a grown man" yet when it's Glinda flaws that are brought out, why is it no longer "Glinda's a grown woman?" and instead all excuses? Oh she would have been in trouble with the Wizard and Morrible if she didn't obey? Mhm and what makes you think Fiyero could just waltz out of there? They straight up "killed" him without any trial or such later on. Also Morrible was at Shiz. Even if she didn't know of Elphaba and Fiyero's relationship she knew there were friendships involved. They both made mistakes. They're both humans. Stop making Fiyero the big bad villain when he's the one to step up and do something.
