On a more serious note, I could use some advice.
I just completed my second out of 6 or 7 chemo treatments. The only benefit of my previous chemo drug was that my hair wouldn’t fall out.
Unfortunately this new chemo causes hair loss if not total baldness.
I had a clump of hair come out in the shower yesterday so now it’s time to think about wigs, I guess.
I need advice on where to find decent quality wigs that don’t look completely plastic. The easier to care for and wear the better.
Honestly, ease is key. I just don’t have a lot of energy to put into styling and tricking out a wig. I just don’t want people to look at me and see some shiny nonsense on my head and make comments.
Help, please?
I’ll give some examples of what I’ve been looking at:
My parents are angels and they are covering the cost. These are all from Lux Hair Shop.
Pretty much and all advice would be appreciated.
Wig advice! Yes, please!
Alrighty then, here are the things I look for in listings to find the best quality wigs:
lace front wigs are always preferable, but I wouldn’t trust that it’s a lace front just because the listing says it is. Most listings for wigs will have the words “lace front” written in them to get more sales, but I have found that lace fronts never cost less than about 30 bucks. So if you see a listing for a wig that says it’s a lace front, and it even looks like one in the pictures, but the price is just like 20 bucks, then it is most likely either photoshopped, or the wig in the picture is not the one you’re gonna get
speaking of pictures, look at them. Some listings don’t even show the wig in itself, just a bunch of pictures of people whose hair supposedly looks like the wig. I tend to only buy wigs that are clearly shown in the pictures of the listing, and that are shown by themselves, not on someone’s head, because that’s most likely photoshopped or not actually the wig. (if you buy from actual wig stores this doesn’t apply, then it’s legit and shit)
READ THE REVIEWS. What rating does this seller have? Are there any previous costumers that have written about their experience with the product? Have previous customers submitted pictures of their own? This is a great way to get a better feel for what you’re actually buying. Sometimes the colour deviates a bit from the pictures, or the curl is tighter than you thought etc. So if there are any reviews, do read them
When it comes to the quality of the wig, look at the price. A wig for 10 dollars is never going to look completely natural. Of course, there are a lot of things you can do to make it look better, but even then, it won’t last long. Even though there are ways to work with cheap wigs, I don’t really think they’re worth it, because usually they shed a lot, and the synthetic fibres are such bad quality that they’re gonna tangle and knot really quickly. And then when you try to brush that out, you’re just gonna end up pulling half of the hairs out. Eventually, it won’t really be usable anymore, and you’ll have to buy a new one anyway, so I really think it’s more worth it to save up and buy a more high-quality wig right away. The best quality wig I own is Annaliese (my Marlene wig)), and that cost me about 50 bucks. My other lace fronts were closer to 40, but when I got Annaliese and felt how much softer her fibres are, and saw how much smoother her hairline is and just how much more NATURAL she looks, I gotta tell you that spending those extra dollars is SO WORTH IT.
I hope that’s helpful, have fun wig hunting my loves
hi jen! i was wondering how you pin down your hair when you put on wigs? i've tried a few different ways but i can't ever keep it put. love your content by the way!! <3
I tie my hair in two plaits
*this is a reaction picture from the night Ash told me he loved me for the first time so sorry for the face but it's the only pic i have LOL*
And i secure the plaits on my head with hair grips and then i whack on a wig cap over the top :-).
Do you have any recommendations for short or pixie cut style wigs? You seem to be like some sort of wig god!
The only one I have I got from a friend, I’ve heard Arda recommended but like I said, I don’t really have experience with short wigs. Sorry I couldn’t help more!
How often do you wash your wigs?
As needed, when I start to notice that they're getting kinda nasty.
