honestly my favorite thing about orlans is that they truly straddle the line between 'civilized' folk and wilder. so much of their history is as slaves! as laborers! the places where they aren't a minority they have civil unrest as they fight with bigger folk for basic rights!

are they considered folk because hearth/meadow plummage prove they can be "civilized"? is it because the Eir Glanfath have a connection to the Engwithans so it's harder to deny their culture?

the langufaeth have language! society! a written language! and no one bats an eye over eating them or killing their young! the ogres are on the opposite end of the same problem orlans have-- are enslaved and treated as inferior mostly because they are the wrong size! their blood is sold as an ingredient!

how many orlans are aware, at the back of their mind, that their humanity is always a hairs breath away from being revoked

Orlan Headcanon #1

Orlans rarely contract as many diseases as most kith, this is doubly so for Wild Orlans. The hair/fur that grows on their body acts as a natural filter for many bacterias and viruses. Should an Orlan be shaved they are at risk of infection and illnesses even more.

Meet Rhoswen! @serenbach86 is GM’ing a one shot in our PoE ttrpg group in a few weeks and I’m playing this wild orlan wizard who’s joining a crew of adventurers and treasure hunters exploring an Engwithan ruin in the Deadfire in hopes of finding more samples of the Engwithan language to study. Because knowledge is the true treasure, for which she will mostly overlook the looting her fellow adventurers are likely there for. After all, if the Builders had intended these particular sites to be well preserved, they’d have put Glanfathan tribes in charge of them, too. But even with her people guarding the ruins in Eir Glanfath as best they can, things deteriorate, and Rhoswen is determined to preserve the memory of the Builders through studying their history and language too. Which is not particularly encouraged back home, so she’s exploring Engwithan ruins in the Deadfire now!

Not many options in game or online in general for wild orlan portraits so I’m basing her on the one from the game here. Also not many options for orlans in picrews and dollmakers but I went through my orlans tag and found the ones I’d used for Dal that had the best fluffy ears...and then edited the colors on some of them so she doesn’t look like a pale-skinned hearth orlan. Hopefully.
